Gift Shops, Gold Leaf, and "Vicky"
Today we had our first Confirmation retreat! We went to the shrine in DC and the Franciscan Monastery for tours and we even got a Mass at the shrine! The mosaics there are breathtaking; in fact, all the art is beautiful. A lot of the mosaics had gold leaf pieces in them, a LOT of them, and the ceilings on the upper floor just shone gold, so there was this shimmering light everywhere you looked. One of the mosaics, I forget which, was rubbed stone, and it was so smooth-looking and all the colors blended, and the piece after that, which wasn't rubbed but was still made of stone... Each of the stones glittered in the light. Heh, you can tell I was pretty impressed with everything. ^_^ Well, except for the food, the food kinda sucked. When I tried the fried chicken I wasn't sure if my tongue had gone numb or if the food was supposed to be that way.
At the monastery's gift shop there was a book of cards that told the meanings of names, and I went on a bit of a name-finding spree. I discovered to my delight that the name "Joey" means "darling". How kawaii is that?! I didn't bother looking up my own name, it's so obvious anyway (here, I'll give you a hint: VICTORIa). Someone's name turned out to mean "destruction," though... I wish I could remember whose.
One thing I noticed as I looked through the name cards at the shrine: No Victoria. No Tory. Not even Tori. There was a Vicky. But I hate that nickname so much, it's not even funny. So I wasn't too happy at the gift shop's choice of stock. Other names I found the meanings of: Greg, meaning "watchman" (got a kick outta that one; Greg is one of my many guy friends), and Joanne, meaning "God's gracious gift". I'm not sure just how gracious Joanne is... Or how much of a gift... Just kidding, she's a great kid, was my companion throughout acting camp.
Yes, well, that was my day. Tadaa! Hope you enjoyed, and if you didn't, I'm sorry to have bored you. Or angered you. Or whatever I may have done. Don't kill me!
