Otaku Awards
Otaku Awards are up and running, which everyone should try and check out. These year's awards are the most successful ones yet; it appears that a wide variety of members are receiving votes, rather than the same five and six members over and over again. Members like James are still receiving a large number of votes (rightfully so, might I add) but I think that people are making concious decisions not to vote for staff only.
I tried voting for a diverse group, but my personal nominations come across as a list of friends and members who I really respect at this place. I'm unhappy to see that there isn't a lot of varietyu in the "Best Otaku Female" category, but it has always been a tradition for two or three members to dominate that category. Of course, that fits in perfectly since the final voting for that category will come down to three grls anyway.
Not only will it be interesting to see which members made it as finalists in certain categories, it will be interesting to see how limiting it down to three choices will effect the final voting. I have a feeling that there are going to be quite a few surprises this year due to the nominations proccess.
And if you haven't voted for Ben in every category, please do so now. Thank you.

Which theOtaku site are you? brought to you by Quizilla
How could I be anything else? Was theOtaku.com/outlawstar an option? That would have made a lot of sense, too...

Out of the Loop?
Happy non-demoninational holidays to all. Some of you might have gotten a card from me in the mail, some of yours might still be in the proccess of being mailed, others... yeah. I hope everyone had a good holiday, because mine was very dramatic, heh.
Anyway, work has kept me from being very active on the boards these days. Although I do the mod stuff fairly easy, it is the individual relationships between members that I have difficulty in keeping up with. There have been a lot of great new members recently, and I hate feeling like everyone is making new friends except for me.
It's not that I'm unhappy with my current crop of friends; far from it. The people I have met in my time here are some of the greatest friends I have ever had. The problem is that all of those people are the ones making new friends, and having their own little inside jokes that I'm completely lost about. Sammiches seem to be more poular than my cookies ever were, and everyone suddenly seems to be in love with Japan86. Did I miss the newsletter that tells members who is fresh and interesting and who isn't? Post quality speaks for itself, but the popularity of certain people is very confusing to me.
Perhaps the boards are just growing in a different direction than I am, or maybe there was never an "in crowd" to begin with. It sure seems like that sometimes, though. Being a new member and trying to fit into this place would be awful. After all, being an older one and trying to fit in is bad enough...
Otaku Awards in three days, I wonder who everyone will be voting for this year.

Dagger IX1 is Cool
Since I have nothing better to write about, I'll take this opportunity to express how cool Dagger IX1 is. It seems like just yesterday that I received a PM from this member, expressing their concern over the Yu Yu Hakusho forum. Currently, this is the only human being who claims to show any compassion for this place. Regardless of the poor post quality, they continue to write up intelligent and thoughtful responses for incredibly stupid topics. If every member were like this, I wouldn't hate favorites topics -- or the repetitive nature of Anime Forums.
And now I see them everywhere on the boards, spreading their unique personality to almost every forum. It makes me happy to see anime fans post their opinions in the Otaku Lounge, or their cool new banners in Art & Design. At the same time I'm a litle jealous that members like Dagger and AzureWolf go out to spend their time elsewhere. Now everyone else gets to see how cool they are, my secret-but-cool members are gone.
So yeah, why do you think Dagger IX1 is cool?

Deja Vu...
Maybe I spend too much time at the boards, but it seems like a few topics are repeated on a bi-weekly basis. More importantly, it seems like it is always the same few people who postthese threads. Doesn't anyone ever get tired of repeating themselves!? Huh!?
Evolution Threads - Otaku Lounge
InuYasha Theads - Anime Lounge
Trigun Forum - Suggestions & Feedback
Abortion Threads - Otaku Lounge
"I'm Ugly!" - Your Picture
Who is the greatest anime swordsman? - Anime Lounge
Where do you live? - Otaku Lounge
Linkin Park - Music, Movies & TV
Homosexuality Threads - Otaku Lounge
Anything remotely questioning the existance of God - Anywhere
What threads are you sick of?

From an OB Chat c/o Ken
There was a shy man with a supply of cookies travelling the land. He walked past a place called "OtakuBoards", and a curious ruckus came from it.
"Why, what a curious ruckus" The shy man said to himself, between bites out of his cookie. Curiousity overtaking him he peered inside, and a great turmoil was going on inside. Rushing about, tons of workers were standing, staring at a door labelled "Anime Lounge".
When Josh approached the workers they stopped him, warning "Stay Back, Stay Back! The spam is too much for us to bear, we need help from someone great.. but no one is around! Oh woe is us."
The shy man thought for a moment before nodding to himself.. he reached into his shy bag and took out.. A GIANT MINIGUN. Kicking down the door he opened fire, slaughtering dozens of people within seconds. Needless to say, the spammers were caught in the spray of bullets to, splattered across the floor in various crimson designs.
This caught the eye of the great James, He who is and He who will always be. And Josh was made ruler over this realm, he and his shygun.
The end.

Manic is Cool
This might become a regular feature here, since there are a lot of cool members who there who deserve recognition. I thought that I would start this off with Manic (formerly known as Endymion), since for he has always struck me as being underappreciated.
Manic is the Music, Movies, & TV moderator at OtakuBoards, but did you also know that he is an anime fan? D-Moon is thoroughly entertaining, and probably the best Sailor Moon website still being updated on the net today. He has a wide knowledge of pop culture, so most of his references will be lost on people. Fortunately, I'm a larger nerd than he is... so everything in his parodies are pure gold to me. ^_^
Another thing that makes Manic cool is the fact that he lives in California. The bad news is that he is stuck up North, where everything is boring.
His post quality is excellent, and I always enjoy talking to him whenever I get a chance to on AIM. So go out there and show him some of your appreciation, good members like this only come across so often.
Why do you think Manic is cool?

If other people are writing about Otaku History (and doing a much better job than I can ever hope to accomplish) whatever will become of this site?

Don't Call Me, I'll Call You...
Every so often OB-ers make a big deal about meeting other members in real life. In the 2003 OtakuAwards, last year's winner for Best Thread was "Who would you like to meet IRL?" so this latest rush to meet people is nothing new. But aside from the few people who already know one another in real life, these imaginary meetings never happened.
But something has changed, and now it seems like every other day there is real life contact between members on OtakuBoards. Syk3 and Mei just met in real life, and it was only a few weeks ago that I got to meet the beautiful Babygirl.
It is a lot of fun to actually meet the people you been chatting with online, but I'm not willing to go out there and meet every random person who joins these message boards. Everyone I have met in real life, exchanged mail with, or spoken to on the phone is someone who I consider to be a close friend. I have quite a ways to go before I get to meet all of my close OB friends in real life, but there is no way I will give someone I barely know my phone number. Most of my friends have been around for the 2+ years I have had at OtakuBoards, so during that time we have gotten to know each other very well. People should try to know the people they are talking to before having a phone conversation with them, doing otherwise just seems a little ridiculous to me.
So yeah, that is my moral ramblings for today. Don't call someone just for the sake of talking to them, the people out there are just a little freaky.
