“Can definitely tell its winter, it’s so cold tonight. Was hoping all day that we’d get some snow, did for awhile, when I was serving a few tables.” She nodded and started walking to the curb.
“Thank you for making this night better for me Ronin.” He smiled and winked.
“Hey no problem sweetness!” She laughed at him and just shook her head.
“You are such a flirt?” He stood up straighter and held his head high in mockery of her statement. They laughed at each other and headed towards the park. Snow began to fall as they walked through central park. Akio had told him the entire story of what happened between her and her now ex-boyfriend. He had put his arm around her shoulder comfortingly, and she just leaned against him.
“I don’t now what I would do without you. You’re like my crutch, Ronin.” He just smiled.
“Hey, I would do anything for ya! You’re like my sister.” She just sighed.
“You’re too sweet...” A tear started to fall from her eye, and glinted in the pale light as a few flakes of snow began to fall. She quickly wiped it away and looked up letting the cold flakes land on her face. Ronin stopped and just watched her as the wind blew past her gently swirling the fallen snow around her feet. The flakes that landed on her skin turned to water instantly, but the few that clung to her hair and eyelashes made her eyes sparkle. He sighed knowing what that jerk did to her, even though she is one of the few gentle spirited people in the world.
“Akio?” He stared at her as the wind seemed to move around her like a white mist. She looked at him and cocked her to the side a little.
“What’s amatter?” His jaw had slightly dropped at how she looked. He stepped over to her and wrapped his arms around her.
“Ronin, what is it?” He hugged her tighter.
“I got such a feeling there when I saw you do that. I felt like I was in a dream and ... Nothing doesn’t worry about it.” She smiled and wrapped her arms around him.
“I’m glad you felt like that…” She looked up at the stars thinking about how she loved to be embraced like this. How it was a hug of friendship and true show of affection to her. This was one person she knew she did not have to fight. Ronin pulled away from her and laughed.
“You’re such a mooch?” Her jaw dropped and she stared at him.
“I’m a mooch!? I don’t think so, you’re the mooch!” He had been walking away from her and looked back.
“Ya really think so?” She ran after him and he turned and ran.
“I didn’t mean that Akio!” They stopped and just started laughing. Akio looked at her watch and turned to him.
“I better get home it’s almost 12:30…” He nodded.
“I’ll walk ya home. And please try and get some rest tonight you’re not lookin too good.” She whined slightly and glared at him.
“Ok thankx Dad…” He laughed at her and pushed her slightly. As he walked her home, he told her that if her old boyfriend was threatening her in any way he would personally rip out her ex’s spine and feed it back to him.
‘Any man that would treat her like this is not a man at all.’ She just shook her head as he went on and on about it. As they came to her apartment building he turned to her.
“Are ya sure you’re ok?” She looked into his eyes and nodded.
“Yea I’m ok, just like ya said gotta get some rest.” He nodded and gave her a hug.
“I’ll seeya tomorrow then Akio. I gotta get back to my apartment otherwise Kisho will be pissed if I come in late and wake him up.” She laughed and turned towards the door leading to the hallway.
“Good Night Ronin and thanks again.” She gave him another smile and went inside making sure the door was closed behind her. The heat from the boiler on the bottom floor swirled around her wrapping her in the comforting heat that their late night walk had taken from her. She made her way to the elevator and went up to her floor. The entire floor was silent except for the occasional sounding of a phone or TV, but otherwise it was dead silent. She opened her door and stepped inside. Akio clicked on the light and saw a letter on the floor. She set her purse down and picked it up.
“I didn’t ask for anything, and it can’t be my rent bill I just paid it?” She opened the letter and inside was a short note; quickly she scanned down to the bottom to look at the signature. It said Ai, that’s when she realized that her friend who was still in college must have stopped by when she wasn’t home and just dropped off a letter. She sat down on her bed to read the short note.

‘Hiya Akio! I got some time off college so I’ll be free for the next few days. Was hoping to catch you at home, but you seemed to be out when I came by, so I just dropped this note for ya. Hope life is treating you well! I will try to call you tomorrow morning. Maybe we can go shopping for a bit if ya don’t have to work. Well I’ll be sure to talk to ya sometime in these few days, hope you’re doing ok, cause your normally home at this time of night? I’ll definitely check on you tomorrow. Well Byeya for now!
Your long time friend,
~Ai~’

Akio smiled and set the letter on her nightstand. She got her robe and went into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. She slowly got undressed tossing her clothes in the basket, and drew her bath. The bathroom was soon engulfed with steam and the smell of roses from her bath oils. She slipped into the hot water, letting the heat wash away all of her thoughts and relaxing her. Then thoughts about how her day had ended quite well rushed through her head. And the thought of how she could have a boyfriend that was not meant for her at all, when she had so many good guy friends by her side. The phone started to ring and she picked it up from the side table next to her.
“Hello.” There was no voice on the other line for a few moments, but then she heard a deep voice come through the phone.
“Hi Akio. I have something I want to give you. Come to the bar on 6th street at 4pm tomorrow. Come with a few friends if you like.” The person hung up and she stared at the phone for a moment, confused. She put the phone down and tried to relax in her bath. The phone call had surprised her a little and caused the nervousness to come back, had her ex set up something in effect to get back at her reaction. The reaction she had was typical to anyone that had been cheated on before. Out of anger she had slapped him hard across the side of the face that it left a bright red mark, that’s when she had turned and run away from him, knowing how he worked.
After about an hour she got out of the bath and turned to her bed. Before she laid down she made sure the door was chained, the dead bolt locked, and her alarm was on. Just in case her ex did try something.
