Character Concept
My friends and I were playing Dungeons and Dragons (rather D20 Modern) the other day. The dungeon master, after the session, asked why I liked to play gimp characters. Well, I've never played a character that was actually handicapped, so I got to thinking that when we actually do a Dungeons and Dragon campaign, I was going to give the DM an actually "gimp" character. My brother says it might be mean or I might end up kicking myself for it. You see, I usually play as characters who can't or won't fight. The DM saw this as a flaw, but I didn't. I think by having the DM exposed to truly flawed characters, I could open his mind a bit. I want to know if this is too much or if I should just give up or if it's not enough.
Okay, this character I'm working on has two big noticeable flaws: 1) he's insane and 2) he's blind (by choice. He wears a blindfold, since he doesn't like the light; it's part of the reason he's insane).
I want to make him a rouge with more dexterity than strength. I'm thinking that I want him to be incredibly flexible, too. Eventually, I want to be able to have him use his flexibility in combat, sort of like Voldo from Soul Calibur or Mogetsu from The Bouncer (who, by the way, is my favorite character in that game or any Square title and is probably part of the reason I want to do this so much). I just don't know what kind of weapon he should use (if he uses katar like Voldo, I'd have to have exotic weapon proficiency, which will be problematic for the character design, since he'll be "useless" until he can use weapon finesse. I don't mind, but I'm worried about the rest of the party. But at the same time blind guy + sword or arrows = many injured teammates + even more useless teammate). I guess I need to think of the mechanics on this one a bit more.
Let's see. His background is going to be a little odd. He was a "special kind of slave" since he can remember. He was also trained to be one of his owner's body guards (hence why he can use weapons in the first place), since no one would suspect the sex slave to know how to fight. He was drilled endlessly, tortured by his mistress when he did something wrong, used against his will, and sometimes, his punishments would include being kept in the dark. He's very sensitive to light because this punishment was used often (at one point, it became expected or desired rather than a punishment). Well, when his mistress was murdered, he felt without a purpose. He decided to make his purpose finding his mistress's killer and ran away from his captivity to persue a person he didn't really know.
This probably sounds really dumb. I guess I should put more thought into the background, too. Oh... Maybe this is a bad idea. Everyone else makes characters that are ideal, I just want to make a seriously flawed character because they are more interesting (like I mentioned before Mogetsu is one of my favorite characters, I also like Sudou a lot). But instead of trying to make this character off the wall, maybe I should embrace the stereotypes and just use my stereotypically gay (by anime terms), pacifistic bard. I'm just kind of bored with that role, too... Eh, whatever.
I guess that's all for today (or at least this morning). I guess I'll be on tomorrow (or after sunrise, as it is). Take care, everyone. Bye.
