What attracts you to people you are attracted to?

In friends I like people who are confident but modest, who are easy to talk to and who I can trust. They are be accepting of choices and values even if they dont agree with them. I'm finding it harder to trust people... which is probably why I have a very small pool of close friends. I really dislike people who tend to only focus on the negative at all times. I'm bad enough for being a pessimist myself that I dont need someone else dragging me down further.

In significant others I like people who are strong and supportive but who also have some level of independence. They have respect for themselves and for me. They can carry a conversation when they need to and need to be able to voice their problems if they arise. They dont always have to have the right words... Just to have the right intentions.
