Le Disko- Shiny Toy Guns

So... We got two new guys at work. Im finally older than someone... by about three months... but I'm still no longer the oldest. So we gained 3 new people. The two guys and one older woman who only works part hours. So that means on a good weekend we now have about 9 people. Two leave at 1:30... but for the first half we have 10... which is a really nice change from my last weekend's four. The only issue is three are new... and therefore dont know how things work/ where things are. It doesnt help that we were suppose to have Christmas done this weekend and out of everyone on the crew I was the only one stupid enough to admit to having worked in the section... I know at least one other person had experience in the section... and hes the ex-superviser... but being the person he is he didnt fess up to that... There's always one jerk that always seems to know where everything goes but still manages to escape any responsibility when it comes to training/ helping other people. So being as I admited to haveing been in the Christmas section for about 20 minutes the previous night... I was expected to help everyone...

Now... to explain the normal frustration with the Christmas section.

Normally you get a skid (4 foot x 4 foot pallet pilled with boxes) that can be anywhere from 3 to 7 feet tall. You work though the boxes putting out stock... Christmas is a bit different with you may get a huge box.... but inside are smaller boxes... and inside the smaller boxes are even smaller boxes which have a ball of plastic wrap... you un-wrap the wrap and you find an ornament... which generally only 6 to 8 will go out.... On top of that... as we're still setting the section out... most of the areas aren't set up... so we have to find pegs and shelves and put them in place... After we find the said item... which may involve 10 minutes of just looking for the right spot... So where a box in a normal section may take two minutes to put out... a box in Christmas can take up to twenty minutes to put out... Depending on how much time you're willing to spend looking for the item... and how well you know the section. I can find things fairly easy now just by looking at the item... but other people take longer... and dont quite grasp how things work in the section *cough* aforementioned new woman *cough*...

So... First night I had to get use to the section myself... AND explain it to everyone else... AND help anyone who didnt have the patience to look for the items. I left with a box count of 30 ((I usually average 80 to 100 depending on the section I work))... We had 5 people working the section that night...

This past night I stocked 20 boxes and I spent a good amount of time trying to help just one person. On top of that we had Brian ((ex-superviser)) call in sick and another person messed up their schedual and just didnt show up. Two people left at 1:30 (( leaving us with 6))... Then the one new guy had to leave early as he had to be in C-town for some personal reasons... We had four people in the Christmas section at one point then it dropped to two for the majority of the night...

I tried to organize things so they would be simple for me at the end out the night as I correctly predicted the fact that clean up would be left to me. Having 30 some odd boxes of stuff just thrown around the ground is not easy to clean up.... expecially when you dont know if the boxes have been looked at or if the items in the box have a home or if its been looked at by three different people. On top of that Im being asked if I know where items go... and if they can be put in flex ((extra room for extra stock))... By the end of the night I was using any excuse to just stop working as I was so frustrated with the whole situation. I dont mind being left to my own devices but when I'm left alone with someone who askes questions every five minutes about every little thing I start to get ticked. Expecially as I know that no matter how much we try not to mess anything up... The girl that usually works the section will come back tonight and complain that we messed something up. Its alot easier to do my own work and keep my head down than watch over the new people to make sure everyone does it right ((Im not managment.... I dont expect to have to do that... its not in my job description...))

It pushed me to the point I considered going home after work and drinking myself stupid... Havent yet... but it still seems like a good idea....

Then on top of it all I kinda got pushed to the back for opportunities to get out of the section. Normally I run around and do small stuff in all the sections... which I enjoy doing... but these jobs were given to the new guys who are still getting to know the store. I suppose theres no real way to win... and its no skin off my back if things go to shit as Im just a worker... but it still annoys me when I can see ways to make things more efficient and people dont listen to me....

I get ticked when people dont listen in general....

I'm glad Percy is back tonight...

In other news... I dont have other news.... It snowed again ((first snow melted as it hit)) and people think Im crazy... maybe I am...
