This week has provided us with not only a fun article from SOAP member SunfallE but we’ve made a new friend with SunfallE’s collab partner, Mariskah. Together they’ve given us When You’ve Made Too Many Anime Wallpapers..
Also, we’d like everyone to welcome our newest member, Sangome Wilder, to the club. She’s already got five articles to her name and we’re happy to have her. Her progress reports be up starting next week.
The future looks bright as our many members not only work on their articles but the collabs seem to be growing in numbers:
Shinkiro's works in progress:
- The Howl’s Moving Castle article has actually been split into 2 The first one will be featuring the main differences between the novel and the anime and is currently in post production. The second article, in contrast, looks at the similarities and is in pre-production.
-Her Kimi wa Petto article is still in the pre-production stages but she expects to start on it very soon.
SunfallE’s works in progress:
- If you liker her collaboration with her friend, Mariskah, then you’ll be happy to know that they are working on a second wallpaper themed article.
- Her article detailing the sword techniques used in the Rurouni Kenshin series is requiring more research than first expected, but it is still in steady progress.
*- SunfallE has reviews for Ronin Warriors and Zenk in the works along with a review/article on the manga Eerie Queerie that is still in the planning stages.
Note: Apparently reviews are not being accepted right now, so once the option is back up and running, SunfallE will revisit these once she can submit. (We might start taking bets on when submissions will be turned back on)
Bellpickle's works in progress:
- Her article on L from Death Note is still coming and with the buzz surrounding the upcoming movie it's eagerly awaited. She’s hoping to start it sometime in the next week.
Ada Pallas's works in progress:
- A couple of articles called “The Father Complex” are currently being written and will draw references from many popular anime. The first article is almost done and should be up in the next couple of weeks
- A review/analysis of the manga Ghost Hunt is still in production and since she just got the 4th volume she’s bound and determined to get this article going.
*- A review/analysis of the anime/manga Bastard! is on hold until she gets all the manga to the series. She should probably try to get the first volume to the anime, too, since that’s the only volume she doesn’t have.
Snow Fox's works in progress:
- Miso Soup for the Otaku Soul, Vol. 2. It'll follow the same format of the first one, but this one will essentially be a nostalgia-inducer for the veteran anime-viewer, and a basic guide for those who haven't yet decided whether or not they like anime.
- Several (approximately 4) articles about Paranoia Agent are in the (very slow) works. Currently, they're all in various stages of pre-development. She is waiting for a break from school to review the anime.
Note: Snow Fox informs us that though she’s yet to get her articles going she’s attending a con this week, which might result in a nice article.
Katana's works in progress:
- Katana is working on an idea for an intertwined article AND quiz. The quiz will help fans come up with ideas for what they should try on their anime sites and the article will take those things and elaborate on them, discussing issues such as difficulty, amount of HTML skills needed, time, and, obviously, the ever hated question of: Bandwith.
Collaborations in progress:
- "Formula 4" is finally in the early production stages. For those who haven’t been keeping track, this article will take a look at anime that use the “formula four” blue print and will specifically deal with the four main characters in the anime and the archetypes that they fit in to. So far Ada Pallas, Shinkiro, and SunfallE have reported that they will submit pieces to this article.
- The Saiyuki article Shinkiro and Ada Pallas are working on is also finally going in to the early production stages. Right now the girls are trying to work out the direction they want this article to go in. This puppy may separate in more then one article depending on how much of their inner fan girl these two channel. Due to some personal problems and other projects this article is looking like it might take a bit of time.
- Bellpickle and Katana are also looking into doing an ACEN 2006 report.
- Bellpickle has also submitted a great article idea that will something like a transcript between SOAP members as they discuss current hot topics in the anime world. It sounds like a wonderful way to find out more about our members.
- And since SOAP is all about articles, Shinkiro, Bellpickle, and Ada Pallas are looking into an article that explains how they come up and produce their articles.
Until next week…

The SOAP crew has been busy as usual both writing and submitting articles this week. Here is a recap of the four articles that were posted at the O since our last weekly update:
- Viva la Revolution: The Effects of Change-Bellpickle brings us an analysis of themes related to revolution, and how those themes are incorporated in Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo and Rose of Versailles. She warns that there are spoilers for both series and that you must have previous knowledge of both series to fully understand the points made in this article.
- Otaku Otaku Revolution-Everything changes and evolves and Katana tells us how both anime and the otaku who love it have changed over the years in this very creatively written piece.
- Anthropology of the 12 Kingdoms-Shinkiro brings us a mock anthropological and geographical study introducing the world from the 12 Kingdoms anime.
- Otogizoushi-The Legends behind the Anime-Shinkiro’s final submission of the week is a look at the Otogizoushi legends and how they were used by Production IG to create this complex and stirring anime. Shinkiro warns that there are minor spoilers.
Now that we’ve looked at what the SOAPer’s have done over the past week, let’s look at what they have in store for us in the future:
Shinkiro's works in progress:
-Despite putting most of her efforts into collabs and a secret project, she has managed to start a new article comparing the Howl’s Moving Castle anime and novel. This article is now in the production stages and is expected to be completed very quickly.
-Her Kimi wa Petto article is still in the pre-production stages but she expects to start on it very soon.
SunfallE is feeling much better thanks to modern medicine and has made some progress. Here’s what we have to look forward to now that she is feeling better:
- Her collaboration with her friend, Mariskah, has come along way and is expected to be finished this very weekend. This article is Mariskah’s first and it is a tutorial on how to make wallpapers.
Bellpickle's works in progress:
- Her article on L from Death Note is still coming and with the buzz surrounding the upcoming movie it's eagerly awaited. Currently, this article is on hold but she expects to resume it in April.
Ada Pallas's works in progress:
- A couple of articles called The Father Complex
*- A review/analysis of the manga Ghost Hunt is still in production.
*- A review/analysis of the anime/manga Bastard!.
* Both reveiws are on hold until she gets more of the respective manga.
Collaborations in progress:

Right now the girls are trying to work out the direction they want this article to go in. This puppy may separate in more then one article depending on how much of their inner fan girl these two channel.
- Bellpickle and Katana are also looking into doing an ACEN 2006 report.
Until next week…

These are the articles to look for in the future:

This week in review . . .
Ada Pallas's article on the life and works of Tezuka Osamu is up. If you want to learn about the person that made the manga revolution happen, this is a must read.
Now, this is what we are working on for the future:
Ada Pallas's works in progress:
- A review/analysis of the manga Ghost Hunt is still in production.
- A review/analysis of the anime/manga Bastard! will be coming once Ada gets all the mangas.
SunfallE's works in progress:
- An article for the Rurouni Kenshin series about the sword techniques used in the show.
- Along with a friend, Mariskah she'll be working on an article that deals with making wallpapers. This will be Mariskah's first article and we highly support those who wish to get their voices out there.

*- A review/article on the manga Eerie Queerie is being planned.
*Note: Apparently reviews are not being accepted right now, so once the option is back up and running, SunfallE will revisit these once she can submit.
Katana's works in progress:
- An article exploring the history of Adult Swim, which, although featuring anime, will also include some of their cartoon tidbits.
- Dub vs. Mutilation - a sort of analysis of the 4Kids interviews and answering the question what seperates a dub from a true disaster zone.

-An article about Kimi wa Petto and how it could have been really smutty but actually turned out to make many valid points about modern relationships and what is expected from modern women.
--An Article about Howl's Moving Castle comparing it with the novel. There will also be mention of different symbolisms and probably notes on things that were confusing.
-- Twelve Kingdoms Anthropology. A mock anthropoligical study that will introduce the anime to those who have not seen it.
Collaborations in progress:
- "Formula 4" A look at animes that use this formula and why. Ada Pallas is heading this collab so it should get going once she gets off her duff and circulates what she has to the other SOAP members. This article will make assumptions on archtypes and then apply them to the animes and mangas.
- A Saiyuki article which revolves around how and why the manga differs from the anime is also in start up phases and is meant to be a collab between Shinkiro and Ada Pallas. This puppy may seperate in more then one article depending on how much of their inner fangirl these two channel. Also, this collab in particular might take a while to produce especially since Ada is the one heading this one up, too.

Hello All! This past week was a big one becuase thanks to Bellpickle our very first collaboration was posted! It's a simple and yet funny peice about some experiences we have had as otaku's and is called Otaku Memoirs. You should go check it out. And be sure to comment on by telling us one of your very own stories!
Also out this past week was Tical's article on the Vampire Hunter D novel called Omniscient Power Abuse: Vampire Hunter D.
Now, I sure all of you noticed that problem we had on the site so unfortunatly communication between members got lost somewhere and thus there's really nothing new to report on the future articles. However there are some slight differences so please read, I'll try to make this sound as entertaining as possible.
Well, since I have insight into Ada Pallas's mind we'll look at where she stands in her article progress:
- Her article on Osamu Tezuka (or Tezuka Osamu) is almost finished and will be submitted later this week. The article focuses on the life of the man know as the "father of manga" and "the God of manga."
- A review of the manga Ghost Hunt is still in the works but if the truth be told, Ada routinly forgets about doing it. You may go harrass her if you like.
- And after a renewed interst in the anime Bastard! she has decided to write a review on it as well. This will be another of her articles that compare the manga with the anime.
The rest of this sadly will just be repeating what we had last week. But just in case you forgot what we're working on we'll give you the rundown.
Bellpickle's still got her article on "L" to do. And to refresh your memory she has decided that since his backstory is pretty much non-existent that she's going to write the article fanfiction style and will explore his character and his backstory through the use of hypothetical situations. Passages of analysis/explanations will be interspersed between the chapters.
Shinkiro is still working on her three articles:
- An article on The Pet Shop of Horrors.
- A comparison between the Otogizoushi anime and the Otogizoushi legend.
- And an article concerning the Twelve Kindgoms anime.
And Snow Fox has her "2":
- Miso Soup for the Otaku Soul, Vol. 2. It'll follow the same format of the first one, but this one will essentially be a nostalgia-inducer for the veteran anime-viewer, and a basic guide for those who haven't yet decided whether or not they like anime.
- Several (approximately 4) articles about Paranoia Agent are in the (very slow) works. Currently, they're all in various stages of pre-development. She is waiting for a break from school to review the anime.
As for Tical, he's keeping his next article top secret. ^^
And since we finally got our 1st collaboration out we are even more excited about the next few.
- "Formula 4" A look at animes that use this formula and why. Ada Pallas is heading this collab so it should get going once she gets off her duff and circulates what she has to the other SOAP members.
- A Saiyuki article which revolves around how and why the manga differs from the anime is also in start up phases and is meant to be a collab between Shinkiro and Ada Pallas. This collab in particular might take a while to produce.
That's all we got for you this week! Hope you liked it. Oh and big shout out to Dagger IX1 the article God and Adam who didn't think our idea for creating this site wasn't too weird. ^^
Later All! |
