The mixture, Narrorated by Cyrus Hershell Vivace, A short story by spaZmodius
I was sitting in a foot of thick greenish liquid. He was lying next to me, his head on my lap, and my hand on his shoulder.

"What did we do to deserve this?" His trembling voice echoed through the stadium.

"I don't know Kryton, But we'll get out somehow." I replied squeezing him tighter. Truthfully I had no faith in my own words. We were going to die, I was sure of it.

Somehow Ignatius had created the mixture. It was originally a small vial of liquid formed by electrically charging helium and carbon monoxied. It began to grow after he accidentally added water to it. He soon noticed that it grew twice as large every time something mixed with it. Thus, he called it the mixture.

I know this becasue he told me. Oh how he had told me in depth! I could have gone without knowing all of that. But it might be helpful towards my fellow Arconians.

Randolf was sitting in onw of the stadium seats attentively typing away on his keyboard. I could not tell what he was observing; Us, or it...

PLINK!

I quickly looked down at Kryton. He looked into my eyes with a horrified expression. He had cut his forehead on my armour and the blood was slowly dripping down... down... down...

Another thing added to the mixture.

Suddenly the mixture began churning violently. It began to extend upward in psuedopods, reaching for the ceiling. Only it wasn't the ceiling it was reaching for, it was Kryton.

Randolf looked up from his work and briskly removed his glasses.

"This si it!" He shouted. "Time to die, Demons!"

Randolf's wild eyes arrowed and he smirked. He fled down the many stairs and was halfway over the glass barrier when a familiar voice broke the silence.

"Randolf! It will engulf you as well if you touch it."

There he stood. The man who started it all.

Ignatius.

Kryton squeezed my waist tighter. I could hear nothing but Ignatius' footsteps and Kryton's breath.

As he walked foreward the mixture parted, leaving a narrow but clean passage for him to walk upon. I stared into his cold grey eyes.

Ignatius looked away from me and towards Kryton. I hadn't noticed, but his breathiing had grown shallow, his eyes were partly closed, and he wasn't holding on to me as gard as before.

Yet I was perfectly fine.

"The blood of a virgin did it." His cold voice peirced the air. "It's tasted his blood and now it wants his flesh."

I nodded to indicate that I understood. He was so young, he didn't deserve to die. I gently stroked Kryton's face for a moment. Ignatius remained silent for the whole time.

The mixture had completely covered Kryton's lower half and was creeping up around his waist. Ignatius' hand gently fell upon my shoulder. I lashed out at him with a spurt of magic and cut his right arm.
"Ignatius you bastard!" I shouted." How could you kill an innocent child?"

"It's not like any of this could be anticipated. The mixture is unpredictable. Just like adolescent halfbreeds..."

I hated to admit it but he was right. It all seemed pretty hopeless from here...

PLINK!

Ignatius looked over to his right arm. Blood was pouring from his wound, flowing down his arm, and dripping off his fingertips.

"I don't see how I missed that..." He stated. I gave a short weak laugh.

Suddenly the mixture grew larger than before. I pulled Kryton from my arms.

"Kryton!!" I then looked at ignatius. 'I thought you said it was complete!"

"It is, and now it's serving it's purpose. Protecting it's master..."

Before I could think the mixture swerved up aroun my legs and pulled me under. I couldn't breathe! I was choking on it.. everything was going faint. Soon it began to burn away at my fur and skin, I was dying.

All I could think about was how Kryton was doing. Ignatius most likely left us here to die. Unless he had taken Kryton with him... NO! I was never going to let that bastard take Kryton, Never!

It took all of my strength to do so, but I eventually broke the surface. It had only been a minute but it had felt like hours.

After I had cleared the gunk out of my throat I scrutinized my surroundings. I had been taken to the other side of the stadium. There were no lights here, the only light in the whole building was a rather small one that lit up only the area I was before. Iganatius was no longer there, and neither was Kryton.

"Oh god. This just keeps getting worse." I said aloud.

I stayed in the blackened rea of the stadium for a while. I was about to move when The door opened. I heard voices.

"Did you do as Ignatius said?"
"Yeah, the kid's locked up in one of the confinement rooms."
"What about blondie?"
"Oh we haven't found him yet, I think he's dead."
"Yeah..."

I heard the door slam again. I stayed perfectly quiet until I knew for a fact that no one was there. The mixture must have stopped thrashing when Ignatius left. I was glad for it was a lot easier to swim to the door that way.

I didn't take the door that Ignatius' minions took. I went through a cleverly concealed door that was close to where I was now.

A good bit of the mixture spilled onto the ground when I opened the door. I could hardly stand and soon found myself sprawled upon the floor, gasping for air. I was too weak to stand, so I remained lying there. I felt someone lift me into their arms.

"Wha?"
"Don't speak, you don't have enough strength as it is."

I soon fell into a warm sleep...

CHAPTER TWO

I awoke screaming my head off and clutching the heavy overcoat that had kept me warm in my sleep. I had no idea where I was, or where Kryton was.

"Who are you and what the hell do you want from me?" I demanded while holding my glowing hands out in casting position.

"Calm down blondie." I heard a sharp irritated voice shout.

"Xander? What the hell are doing here?" I asked. It was impossible to forget his voice.

"I'm saving you and KRyton's asses." He paused, then added with a wink. "What else would I be doing?"

I gave him a weak smile as I handed him back his coat. He pulled it on and began telling me about how he had gotten in here.

I hadn't been paying attention very well and interrupted him. "Kryton' in one of the confinement rooms. I suppose we should go find him." Xander gave me a dirty look, but he nodded because I was right.

About an hour later we came across the long hallway containing all 128 confinement rooms. I had a feeling that Kryton was in the last one. That where Ignatius always put me. I ran down to the end and looked in the small window, Kryton was in there, but he was asleep. I quickly tried to work at the locks but Ignatius had some pretty impossible ones. I was very close to opening it when something began to flow around my ankles. I was thick, green, and was pulling on me.

"Xander!" I shreiked, "It's the mixture!"

"I noticed."

There was no way I could fight this thing. How do you control a liquid? You can't slash it, chop it, decapitate it, or burn it. I fell to my knees. Xander turned around and looked at me wild eyed.

"I can't do it..." I managed to squeak through my tears.

"Well sitting there like a child isn't going to help much either!" He shouted back.

I had given up all hope. I couldn't have cared if someone killed me right then, right there.

Then it hit me. The mixture knew that I had hurt Ignatius because his blood had poured into it. There was a good chance that if I bled into the mixture, it would assume me dead and leave me alone. I yanked Xander's sword from him and slashed myself across the arm. I began chanting a curse as I let my blood pour down into the mixture. It began to make churn and made a low growling noise. I stoof there with my eyes closed, ready for what ever was going to hit me.

Nothing did. It was going away. I immediately kicked the door opening it in the most effecient way possible. Xander ran in and grabbed Kryton while I stood watch.

"Xander... I don't think I fooled it..."

After hearing my words he looked out towards the hall. It was coming at us again, slowly, but it had brought a friend along. Ignatius.

His eyes were glowing a wild red and flames brusted from his fingertips. The fire spread across him arms and stopped around his shoulders.

"You never know when to stop do you, Vivace?" His sisnister voice, thick with hatred, sliced through the air. He stopped moving about 20 feet in front of us. Kryton squeaked in terror and buried his face into Xander's shirt.

"The fire burns brilliantly, peircing the darkness. Do you think you could defeat me Cyrus?" Ignatius hissed.

"I don't think, I just do." I shouted while stabbing the ground with a large metal pole I had found. I sang out a spell of enchantment morphing the pole into a staff.

"Well then, you ready for it?" I asked him.

CHAPTER THREE

He didn't answer, he showed me. He lashed out at me with a powerful fire spell. It hit me, and it hit me good. My arm was burned a bit shoulder but not enough to bother me too much. I lifted up my staff and began to chant. A cold chill filled the air and began swirling around. The ground began to shake and a crevice opened in the ground. Four corpses crawled out. I was surprised. I didn't think I could control that many servents at a time. I shouted my command as they stumbled towards Ignatius. He chanted and a ring of fire appeared around them stopping them from motion. I threw my staff down and leapt through the fire and zombies. I delivered the kick across his face. He didn't fall. He just stood there, laughing.

"Do you really think that that could affect me in any way?" He sneered.

"Well no, but it distracted you."

"What?" He asked.

I would have answered, but Xander had gotten the hint. He had carefully placed Kryton on the ground, ran over to where I was, and impaled Ignatius in the stomach with his sword. He slowly fell to the ground. I watched as his blood poured from the wound onto the floor. I bent over and felt his pulse. He was still alive.

Then I remembered the mixture.

"Oh shit..." Xander said as the mixture began to make a low growling noise. Soon it grew to be a loud feirce roar. Xander ran over to Kryton, picked him up, and grabbed me by the colllar of my shirt. I didn't even know it had a collar.

I could hear the mixture sloshing behind us as we ran down the hall. We were just about to the end when it extended it's psudopods in front of use, making an inpenatrable wall.

"Oh for the love of Ona'i! Now what are we going to do?" I shouted while covering myself with my wings. "This is insane!"

I secretely decided to go quietly when suddenly a voice broke the awkward silence.

"Leave them alone my servent. They may leave now."

The mixture shrunk back into a corner and settled. It was asleep. I looked back to where Ignatius stood. He had overcome his wound and was looking mein the eyes.

"You fight pretty well for a halfbreed and a pirate." He said with a smirk. "But you still deserve to die. Just not today. I want to give kryton a chance to fix that being a virgin problem."

"He's only 11." Xander inquired.

"True, but he needs to be a little bit older before he starts paying for other peoples mistakes."

And with that, it was over. Xander, Kryton, and I found our way out of there and were looking for the next village in seemingly no time. But for some reason I still felt as if I was going to meet the mixture again. But of course, that would be after Ignatius perfected it.

I shuddered at the thought and ran to catch up with Xander.
