I'm One of the Lucky Ones
Well, from what you could tell of my last post, things seem to be looking up for me. I now know that as of last Sat. (Sept 10th) my house was still standing. My uncle, a retired NOPD officer, was able to get back in the city to check on our houses and get some of our cloths, so as soon as my mom sorts through the stuff from our house and sends my stuff up here, I should have a close to normal woredrobe again.

In other news, (now I sound like a freaking reporter) my mom finally regestered with both the Red Cross and FEMA, so we could recieve assistance. She'll be sending me some money soon. I wasn't able to get a job at either the pet store or the horse stables on campus, instead I'm working at the meats lab wrapping meat. It's not really all that bad, the worst part is riding my bike all the way there, since I'm still without my preicious car. My classes have been good thus far, and I really like my animal anatomy class (we each get to disect our own cat [that they give us already dead, of course]).

Oh, and to those of you who have alreay donated to the Katrina relief effort, I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support and kindness means the world to me and everyone else effected. Here's a link to a Web Comic Telethon that is being put on the help raise money for the Red Cross. Also please visit my other links to the Red Cross's web site and Crafters United, if you haven't done so already.

Oh, and finally, here's a bit of anime talk. I watched the American TV premire of Naruto. It definately wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, since that horrible Editing of One Peice sort of scared me. But what surprised me most (and to my delight) they kept in the scenes featuring Naruto's infamous "Ninja Centerfold" (or "Sexy-jutsu" as they called it in the anime). I was almost certain they were going to edit that out, but I guess it helped that it's being shown late on Toonami's block and didn't need to be watered down to some petty "saturday morning cartoon." Also, Fullmetal Alchemist, season 2 premiers this sat, and I can hardly wait! Now all I have to do is find out when the season opener for Smallville is.

   Thing are Looking up!
Well, I'd have to say, now that my school year is finally getting back under way, things have gotten better for me. When things started to open back up here on Tus, I was so busy getting ready that I didn't have time to miss my mom and the others. I've so far gotten my text books, took care of some money issues at the bank, gotten a few more things at Wal-Mart, and I even had time to get a new betta fish. Fish are the only type of pets we're aloud to have in our dorms.

But anyway, so many people have been so nice to me, especially my good pal, Violinagin and her family. They let me stay at their house for a week before school started, she lent me a bowl to keep my betta in, her little brother even make me a card in his class.

I've also been getting a few job offers, which is very good since I absolutely need a job. Since I just found out I still can't do work-study here at Tech, I can't work at the Equine Center like I wanted. But the guy at the pet store where I got my fish told me he had a posision opening up soon when I told him I'm an animal science major.

Oh, and one more piece of most excellent news. Some friends of my family who have been comisioned to help re-build the city were able to go by our house earlier this week and from what they could tell, no one has broken into it yet! I'm so happy about this; I'm actually hoping now, that all of my stuff will still be there when I get back.

Well to recap: People have been nice and supportive, I bought some new stuff including a fish, I'll most likely be working at a pet store, and my house is still in one piece. Well that's all, gotta dash, more updates soon! Cya!!!

   Murphy's Law
For those of you who don't know this law, it states that "Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong." Ok, so this isn't a real scientific law, rather a sarcastic way to explain why everything seems to go wrong at once, but it just seems like it's coming into play in my life. Let me explain: first there was the hurricane, as you all obviously know. Then, my dad rebroke his leg during the storm and ended up in the hospital, again! Also my brother's tire on his bronco blew out, not once, but three times! Plus on top of everything else, it took my mom and brother 12 hours to get to Destin yesterday, a trip that would normally take 8 or nine hours. I guess having to wait in line for gas had a lot to do with it.

Well, in other news, I'm offically moved into my dorm now. The only things I don't have that I'm really missing now are my car and my TV, but hey, you can't have everything. I'm really missing my mom right now, even though it's only been 24hrs since I last saw her. I guess I just really want to be with my family right now, but that just isn't an option for me now since with my current finacial situation, it's more vital than ever to mantain my current scholarships and make myself eligable for new ones.

Once my classes start next Monday, things should start moving at a quicker pace. My goal is once again straight A's, even though I probibly won't get it (Aim for the moon and you'll fall short. Aim for the stars and you's reach the moon.) I like that quote, and it's a pretty good philosophy to live by when setting your goals.

Well that's all I have for now!

I can't go home!
Well even though I can't, things should still be ok for the next few months. Today my mom is supposed to drive up here to Monroe to get me and my brother. This will be the first time I've seen her since last Sat. She'll then get me some more cloths and some bedding for my dorm room. I'll be moving into my dorm this Sat. so I will have a place to stay, plus my university meal plan should keep me from starving, thank goodness I already paid my fees for this quarter.

Well, now on top of everything else, I'm starting to get sick. I guess this is from all the stress and not eating properly for a week. That too should change once I get settled at school.

My mom and brother, once they get me settled in my dorm, will then drive to Destin, FL where they'll be living for the next few months. My aunt, my mom's oldest sister, has a fairly large condo down there that was recently fixed up after Ivan and Dennis. From what I hear, a good chunck of my family is going to be staying there, so it's going to get pretty crowded, especially for Thanksgiving, my first break.

Right now, all I consider still having are the things I have with me, which isn't very much, but at least I have my laptop, my cellphone, my digital camera, and some of my art supplies. I consider myself lucky to have these things.

   More Crap
I don't know why this is, but I seem to be updating my blog thingy every two days. Anyways, nothing looks good and I'm sure you've all heard the news reports. In a little bit of good news, they've finally evacuated Children's Hospital so now my mom is safely out of the city. After spending a night at a friend's house near Baton Rouge, she'll make her way up to where my brother and I are.

No news yet on my cousin, the LA state trooper, he'll most likely have to stay down there to help restore peace to the city, which I feel has now become the "Iraq of America." I going to call my aunt today to see how he is.

This morning after I got off the phone with my mom, I started watching the news for a little bit, but then I finally broke down and cried for the first time in this whole ordeal. It had just gotten to be too much for me; I have to assume that all of my things that I left at "home" are gone, if not damaged by water, than stolen by looters. I don't even know if I have a home anymore.

I'm really sorry to bring you guys down with all this, but I find my myO journal one of the best places to talk; you guys who comment or PM me always seem to show me support, and I thank those from the bottom of my heart that already have.

Right now, though, I just can't stand to watch the news for more than an hour at a time. I've kind of withdrawn into what I call, my emotional stablization phase. This is where I cut myself off from reality for periods of time through, anime & manga, TV, movies, and even RPGs. This has always seemed to work in keeping myself less stressed out and less depressed, first from the normal qualms of high school, than when my brother's friend died back in March, now I hope it will do the same for me now.

   Katrina Update
Sorry just realized I haven't really updated since Katrina made landfall, do I guess I should fill some of you guys in on my current situation. I am still in the dark on many of the details of conditions back home, that itself can be bad, waiting for info. I last heard from my mom last night, and here is a bit of what she told me. My house didn't really get water in it at all (but this was before the 2nd levee breach), our backyard fence on one side it distroyed, one of the awnings(sp?) on the front of our house came down and scraped my car but I don't really think it has any more damage than that (the car or the house).

I'm currently watching/listining to streaming video of my local news, and the time frames of when residents can return is still uncertain, but it could be weeks, even months before people can even return. I even just heard that it could be December 1st before schools down there are back in session.

Here are some links to information that I've been getting:
Local New Orleans News Site
The Weather Channel's Website
Live Streaming Video of Local New Orleans News Cast (Windows Media Player Required)

I will try to have more Katrina updates soon

   Escaping Katrina
Ok, most of you guys know I live in New Orleans; for those of you who didn't, I live in New Orleans, now you know. Well, from what everyone keeps saying about Hurricane Katrina, this is most likly "The Big One." What I mean by this is that every year they predict that this will be a busy hurricane season and they remind us all that if a major Cat. 4 or 5 were to directly hit the city, it could go entirly under water, hense the Big One.

Now I won't lie, I'm freaking scared out of my mind about the prospect of my city of birth and childhood home will all be washed away in one foal swoop. I'm currently staying at my old roomie's house in North Louisiana, and the rest of my family and friends are scartered across the Southeastern states, and as far as I know, most of them are out of harm's way. The only exceptions to this are my cousin and my mom, both of whom have jobs that force them to stay. My cousin is a LA state trooper and my mom is a registared nurse at the Children's Hospital in New Orleans. I pray for their safety.

Friday seems so long ago, my last day of work, going to my brother's first football game of the year; then we turned on the 10pm news and it was all Katrina. Before this, the last I'd heard of then TS Katrina, it was suppossed to curve up and make landfall well east of Destin and Fort Walton Beach, FL. I guess this is yet another example of how quickly a person's life can change.

   Last Day of Servitude!
Well, today is my last day of work for the summer. I'm so happy since this job is sooooo boring. I only worked this long because of the pay and I really needed the money. I was able to earn enough to pay for this quarter's expenses plus a little extra. In case you're wandering, I usually have to shell out about $1500 a quarter (three times a year). This includes room & board, food, and tuision, and this total is after scholarships have been taken out.

In other news, I have new art up. Go check it out and please vote on it.

   More Stuff
Hey, just reliezed that my last post only contained about half of the things that have happened over the past 6 months. So, yeah, I have more to add.

As I mentioned before, I finished my first year of college back in May, and my grades were much better than I expected, considering all the crap I went through spring quarter (LA Tech U is on the quarter system instead of the semester system). I guess it was a good thing after all that I only took 10 hrs/3 classes. My grades were thus: Trig- A, Micro Bio- B, & Comp Lit- A. That means I got a 3.6 GPA for spring and a 3.02 overall.

I've also been working all summer as an office assistent of sorts. I get $25 a day and no taxes taken out, since I'm working "off the books." But the pay is the only good thing about this job; it is just so boring, thank goodness this is my last week. I would have stopped sooner, but I really need the money for school, since I still have to support myself entirely through this year.

I head back up to school Labor Day weekend (Sept 3rd) and I start classes either the following Thurs or Fri. I'm taking 12hrs/5 classes which include: Chem & Chem lab, Phys, Eng, & Animal Anatomy. I'm still striving to get into LSU's vet school and I really hope I get in in three years.

Well, that's all for now. Cya lata!

Updates: the good, the bad, and the just plain
Well, I have now offically returned from my "hyadius" of sorts. So much has happened to me over the past 6 months. I guess the best place to start is at the beginning.

As some of you may already know, fone of my brother's best friends passed away back in March. He was a very sweet kid and only 17. He died of a heart condition that was only discovered after his death. To help cope, his family started this organisation to help inprove conditions for student athletes.

Now any of you who have read the 6th "Harry Potter" know that romance can blossom in the wake of great tragity. I only wish I was talking about myself, but I'm not. Instead it was my brother; after his friend passed, the relationship with his girlfriend became a lot more serious. I really have no problem with her, she actually quite good for him, in more ways than one. I only hope I, too, can find the right guy for me.

Well, I did manage to survive my first year of college, and in a few weeks, I'll be headed back up to school for my sophomore year at Louisiana Tech University. I'm really looking forward to this year, especially since I'm going to have a bigger dorm room and I already know my roommate.

Alrightie, that was my brief over view of my life over the past 6 months. I'll try to update more often.
