CHAPTER 3: a tost to the new mentors

Once I woke up I found myself squished by mudpaw. Man she’s really light…for some reason it felt like I was stronger than before…maybe the star clan was helping me reach my goal, to be a great medicine cat…I mean there wouldn’t be much of a clan with out one and Snowleaf wont last forever. Today was the day after the ceremony. Which means today every kit that is now an apprentice now gets a mentor. I already know who mine will be but I wonder whom mudpaw might get. Well there’s only one way to know the answer and that means we all have to wait. I desisted to go visit Snowleaf because if I’m going to see her every day I might as well start now. I padded over to her den. She was standing gracefully out side sniffing the morning due. I carefully walked up to her and said “Hi Snowleaf!” she jumped. “Oh my…oh is just you…ah, oh hello…um what was it again?” I giggled and told her “Its now greenpaw!” “Oh yes one of the new apprentice right?” this time I didn’t just giggle I busted out laughing. I now see why Snowleaf is a favorite in the clan. She looked at me with a playful smile. “Oh you better look out here comes Mousefoot!” she and greenpaw stood up strait and took a deep breath. When mouse foot pasted we both let the deep breath quickly escape through our nostrils. We looked at each other and giggled. I figured why not stay a while and help out! “Hey, Snowleaf you need any help?” “No little one I sure don’t but I think falling star is calling!” I looked at her with a glowing pride. I’m sure I will have fun with my mentor. I padded over to the clearing and sat next to Clawpaw. “Hey Clawpaw where is mudpaw…?” “She’s still sleeping…why?” “Well because is kind of an important meeting you now!” I weaved through the cats and ran towards the apprentices’ den. I tripped over a small pebble in which make me tumble over and slammed right into mudpaw. She awoke with alarm. “Mudpaw the meeting has been called” I said upside-down. She glanced at me and then dashed out in to the clearing, sat down and gave her self one good lick to pull back the air that swung in her face. I tumbled over to get right side up. Then trotted over to sit next to mudpaw. “Hey thanks for waking me up greenpaw…I owe you one!” “No biggy!” then Fallingstar spoke at last “I call all the apprentices up to the rock.” I followed mudpaw nervously. Mudpaw followed Sinpaw and Sinpaw followed Hogpaw. Of course Clawpaw was right behind me, tail between legs scared as if there was a dog standing behind him. “I, Fallingstar, will now choose your mentor. Greenpaw…step forward please.” I did as he told. “Your mentor will be…Snowleaf!” everyone gasped at the sight of me being the newest medicine cat…I lowered my ears and bowed my ears in shame. But Fallingstar though it was a compliment and said I had very good manners. Then he called out “Mudpaw…please step forward…” mudpaw did so “your mentor will be…” mudpaw was scared to death. Was it going to be Mousefoot? “Rockfur!” mudpaws eyes light up. Rockfur, now way. Rockfur was a legend. He was the best warrior ever. Mudpaw raced toward him. He was smiling as joy over helmed him…he they both rubbed noses he had never had an apprentice either! They looked at each other for a for a while and then they paid attention to the other apprentices. It was moon high by the end of the ceremony. Hogpaw got Cantoninetail, Sinpaw got Lowclaw, and Clawpaw got Barkface. The warriors got to their paws and walked off into their den as the apprentices went to the apprentices’ den. Tonight has been a long one I thought. But I’m glad I got Snowleaf. I cuddled up close to mudpaw and fell fast asleep

CHAPTER 2:

'Mudpaw' my new name. i kept repeating it over and over again inside my head.i had become an apprentice!!!!!! i bounded over to where greenpaw was napping in the apprentices den, she had missed the rest of the ceremony, hogkit, our brother had become hogpaw, sinkit, sinpaw and our friend clawkit had been named clawpaw! MoutianClan, as of today has 5 new apprentices, us! By prodding Greenpaw in the ribs with my paw i woke her up. "What!" she grunted. "come on! lets try and guess who our mentors will be!" i meowed. Greenpaw got to her feet, "i already know who my mentor will be, Snowleaf!" i remembered now, greenpaw would become the medicine cat's apprentice! "sorry" i mewed before quickly continuing, "i hope Mousefoot isn't my mentor!" "naw, i wouldn't bet on that" the voice wasn't greenpaws-or mine. i turned around to face the entrance of the apprentices den, there stood Mousefoot. greenpaw snickered. i just dipped my head respectfully and softly mewed "sorry, mousefoot." "now, now" he replied "i don't mind" looking up, i know i saw a faint flicker of hurt in his eyes, flicking his tail in farewell he turned and padded across the clearing to the fresh kill pile. i instantly felt bad. "geenpaw-" i began, but just as the words left my mouth Hogpaw and Sinpaw shoved there way through the entrance of the den, poor Clawpaw behind them was eating there dirt. "So!" hogpaw half yowled "this is our new den!" i rolled my eyes as i turned away from my brothers and Clawpaw. I padded past Greenpaw who looked as disgusted at them as i was, out of all my siblings Greenpaw was the only intelligent one. now at the back of the den i picked a bed of leaves and tore at it until i found it comfortable enough to lay on. i fell into a restless sleep. I woke up just as the sun was rising, today we will find out who our mentors will be, i felt a little upset, i still felt bad about mousefoot, i half-wished that he WOULD be my mentor. looking around in the den i saw 4 sleeping cats, greenpaw, hogpaw, sinpaw and clawpaw. they had been my litter mates, and now we were apprentices, i felt a tingle of pride...

CHAPTER 1: the beginning

I was awoken from the loud snore of my sister, Mudkit, who was sleeping right beside me, nose to my ear and breathing heavily. I got up from my mothers nest and started to wake up Mudkit. But before I could even touch Mudkit I flopped over and woke my bother, Sinkit, he yelped with fear in which woke everyone in the nursery. I could already tell this was going to be a clumsy day. The warriors came rushing over in attacking position. But mama was to…the warriors step back as they new she was doing that for defense. Once the warriors had left, the she-cat calmed her kits down with one lick each. In our litter there was mama also known as Sunflower she is one of mountain clans queens, Sinkit who was my brother, and Hogkit who was the fattest kit in the litter, also the stupidest one, and then there’s Mudkit that is the one that I would rather hang with, and last but not lease me. Today was also one of the best days of all our lives. Today is the day our ceremony will take place. At the ceremony we will become an actual apprentice and we even get our own mentors. “Hey Greenkit are you exited?” yelled Mudkit. “I sure am!” I said with enthusiasm. We both wrestled back in forth. Until we hit a rock that is. We just slammed right in to the sucker. Then a warrior came. He walked toward us with such pride he seemed to glow. “You two stop fooling around. You two should know that.” “I did…” Mudkit started off. “I was just…um…” I butted in “testing you…yeah she was testing you to see if you could…um…” ‘Oh no’ I thought ‘I ran out of words to say.’ Then as if she was hit by lightning Mudkit spoke “ Tell the difference between fighting and showing off!” he looked at us with uncertain eyes. “Sure.” he said boldly then walked off. Mudkit and I looked at each other until we couldn’t see Mousefoot. Then we both burst out laughing. Mama called us back inside the nursery. I followed Mudkit and then stopped as Mudkit slowly creped to the entrance of the nursery. I looked back, not at were Mousefoot left us, but at the medicine cats entry, otherwise Snowleafs’ entry. Then I patted to the nursery in which I saw Mudkits tail vanished. I headed on in and laid down by mothers’ side and took a catnap. I awoke to Mudkits voice saying, “wake up Greenkit! Or your going to miss the ceremony!” I shot up and ran to the entrance and poked my little head out of the thick draped vines that covered the entrance so the kits would keep warm. It was nighttime now and ever one was gathered in the clearing. I smiled brightly at mama. She looked back with the happiest smile I have seen in 6 moons. She licked Mudkits hair in which made it stand up on end. She looked at mama with an angry stare. Mama just licks her hair again. Then it was my turn. Once I was done with my bath I was cover from head to tail with saliva. Mudkit looked at me and then giggled. I didn’t mind, I giggled at her as well. And anyways I was to caught up in my thoughts for I was daydreaming about how life is going to be different now. I was going to learn the warrior code. I was exited. I heard a voice that sounded familiar. It was lemurtails’ voice “Now announcing…” he paused for a moment. “ Fallingstar!” as lemurtail said that, Fallingstar approached. He walked slowly to the edge of the rock that stuck out of the mountain. “I call upon Sinkit, Hogkit, Mudkit, Greenkit, and Clawkit.” Clawkit is on of the other queens’ kits…he’s called Clawkit because he uses everything as a scratching post. Everyone who was announced came up to the rock. Here the ceremony began. “I call forth Mudkit…” she dashed towards his side. “This kit will now be called Mudpaw from now on…” she said her name with pride. “Next I call Greenkit…” I patted to the same spot where Mudpaw stood. “Who will now be called Greenpaw…” I held my head high and said my name. I loved my name. I ran off to the apprentices den. There I found a open spot and slept.
