Otaku's Death Sentence Finalized
Posted Yesterday by Dagger IX1
Ever wondered why the word "otaku" has so many negative connotations in Japan? In truth, much of that can be traced back to a single man: the Otaku Murderer.
Between 1988 and 1989, Tsutomu Miyazaki kidnapped and brutally killed four young girls. When he was finally arrested, and the police investigated his house, they discovered that he owned over six thousand hentai. This inspired his unfortunate nickname. And, as you might have guessed, it dealt a near-irreparable blow to the reputations of ordinary otaku.
The legal shenanigans lasted for sixteen years--until yesterday, when Japan's Supreme Court upheld Miyazaki's death sentence. Took them a while, didn't it? Thanks to ANN and the Daily Yomiuri for their information on this case. Comments (41) « Back
