This is the prolouge to a story i'm writing! ^_^
“Sister! Sister, where are you?” Haku screamed running through the ally ways of the city. Hardly anything was visible through the smoke that the burning houses created. He ran to a corner and caught a glimpse at soldiers marching through the streets of the city.
The soldiers were clothed in scarlet armor and were killing anyone they saw. Nothing in the town could stand up to their numerous numbers, for even if someone brought a few down, more would come to take their place. Everything seemed hopeless.
The raging fires brightened the city with dancing flames, and thing were burning to ashes. Mangled bodies were spread throughout the streets, and fresh blood ran into cracks and crevices, and spread onto everything else. This massacre was endless, and the town was being destroyed, every building, one by one.
Haku ran into a large tower standing on the east part of the city. Everything was dark and silent in there, as it had not yet been set a fire. He ran up the many stairs that lead up to the very top, to room that out looked the city and the country sides that surrounded it.
“Why must you all resist?” a voice asked in the shadows in the room as Haku gazed out of the window. “You’ll all just be slaughtered anyway, so you may as well give up.”
Haku spun around as a figure wearing red Japanese style armor walked out into the moonlight that brightened the room. His black hair was hidden under a hat, but his cold eyes studied Haku carefully. His bloody spear was carried in a firm hand that was set by his side.
“Nothing will save your little town now, so there’s nothing you can do.” He exclaimed taking slow steps towards Haku.
Haku toke steady steps away from the man, looking down at the enflamed city below. He was careful not to plunge down and burn to ashes.
He stared up at the man, with his heart full of fear.
“You might as well DIE WITH THE REST OF THOSE DOGS!” The man yelled as he shoved his spear toward Haku. Haku quickly dodged the thrust and grabbed a small sword lying on a table at the edge of the room. Not knowing what to do he quickly swung the blade.
Blood splattered on the wall as the man bent over, grabbing what was left of his right arm in pain. His forearm rolled down the stares as the man shoved Haku down the stairs along with it. He ran to the window and called out to all his soldiers.
“Go! Destroy this city by daybreak! Engulf it! Burn it to the ground!”
The soldiers continued with their work as Haku rolled into a storage room and was knocked unconscious.
Haku woke up with a start that morning, the sun shining on his face. He looked around at what had once been the great city of Lethe. Stones were thrown everywhere and ashes were spread throughout the ruins. He began pushing his way through all the rubble with a shocked face. Bodies were tossed around like rag dolls, and rocks were stained with red and black blood.
He walked up to a body and stared in horror. There his sister laid, her head seeming to be blown apart from the inside. Haku could still make out her face from all of the skull shards and pieces of flesh.
“Sis, sis?” Haku asked with tears running down his cheek. He stared at her mangled body, and began to cry. This was the true meaning, of death.
