WOO CHAPTER ONE.
Allllright, kiddies. I'm going to post Ch1. This is how it rolls. It's the story of my childhood, starting with one afternoon when I was five...
Memoirs of a Storm Child: Taren's Life Story
Introduction:
Every day, there are millions of anniversaries. Today, all across the world, millions of people celebrate various anniversaries that are so very special to them. These days are usually days of rejoicing, days of happiness and celebration. Then there are those who mourn the anniversary of the death of someone once close to them. Today, for one girl, is that day.
Chapter One: An Anniversary Flashback
I sit here on my bed, which has been pushed against the wall, as silent tears run down my pale cheeks. Staring off into the great nothingness of a bare, unclothed wall, I can't stop thinking about them. It has been ten years to the day since my parents were murdered. I was only five when my mother and father were slaughtered in our home, right in front of my innocent eyes.
I run my fingers through my long, straight, black hair, not catching a single tangle. It seems like just yesterday when I couldn't get my fingers more than an inch through the masses of those black spiral curls...
I can feel the memory creeping up from the deepest, most secluded corner of my mind. My eyes glaze over as a blank expression takes the place of the former hurt one.
It was a sunny, beautiful Saturday in the peak of autumn. The sky was the purest blue, not even a wandering cloud dared disturb the peaceful heavens. A gentle breeze swept across the earth, and it seemed the most innocent day of the year. The foliage of autumn-changed trees rustled happily, the occasional gust showering you with the crayon-bright leaves, just like a scene from your favorite romance movie.
I was outside, several miles from the house, playing those beloved classic childhood games with my best friend, Ajirara.
Ajirara was ten, while I was only five. Her brilliantly ocean blue hair seemed as if it were covered in glitter, because, with even the dimmest light, it constantly changed emerald green to ocean blue and back. Ajirara was an Earth/Water hybrid. Her play dress was split down the middle, one half lilac, the other royal purple. I liked to call her RaRa, but after that day, I never muttered her name again.
"Tag!" she called as she sprayed me with a jet of water.
"Oh, that's no fair," I said. "I can't do that kinda thing yet!"
"RaRa just grinned. "Just think about energy. About storms, about lightning, or electricity. Imagine in your mind what you want to happen."
I tried with all my might to produce even a spark, but something kept distracting me. Now I barely give it a thought. I believe I had a slight premontion, because a terrible feeling deep in my heart told me something horrible was going to happen.
"RaRa... We needa go home," I said, my voice trembling.
"Why, Taren? We're having so much fun!"
The sky suddenly got dark as a huge wall of black clouds rolled in, much faster than normal. The thunder clapped in the distance with a great roar, and a bold of lightning brilliantly lit up the forest. I stood admiring the lightning and the rain began to pour.
"You're right, little one, time for home."
I jumped onto her back and held on tight as she floated upwards and shot off towards my house.
We were only fifty meters from my home when something struck Ajirara on the back of the head, knocking her out. Immediately, we were plummeting to the ground from about four stories in the air.
I hit the ground hard, but I was lucky, I landed in a pile of brush. Ajirara was laying only six feet from me, shattered and broken. That was the first death of the day, and also how I gained my fear of heights.
END.
^^ Hope you like it. More to come soon!
