Koru and Taren: A Story of Predestined Love
Alright, this is the first chapter of my new story. The childhood story will be continued, but this is my top priority. >> I thin I'm ADD. xD Ready for this? Good.
Chapter one: The Bloody Tattoo
A cool breeze rushed through the beautiful pink flowers of the cherry blossom trees that surrounded us. I paused for a split second, distracted by the beauty of nature and how my back had started to itch, and was hit.
A painful blow of a series of fireballs to the torso, and a swift kick to the side overtook me. I doubled over, putting up a strong wind barrier. My back wouldn’t stop itching for some reason.
“Had enough?” asked the Crimson God with a serious expression. Kaji Da was his name, and he was the god of fire, and for the past three years, my teacher, my master, my seefu.
I stood, not letting down my barrier. “Not quite,” I said with a determined smile. I finally stopped the winds and charged at him, engulfed in lightning. Oh, the advantages of being a hybrid.
My (always) brutal round of training lasted only for a few minutes that day, for Kazi’s henchmen decided to ambush.
There were ten of them, and only two of us. The Dark Lord Kazi, and his Lady, Kiza, had planned this perfectly. Kaji Da took four out with one big fireball.
“Cheater,” I mumbled as I grinned, chucking both of my axes into the back of one of the henchmen, then pulling them out with the attached lightning and wind whips, respectively. A sympathetic expression overcame my face as I watched him fall.
By this time, everyone else had arrived, and the dark followers had tripled.
It was a vicious battle, and quite some time later, it was over. I don’t exactly remember the end. Or, in fact, the middle. Soon after everyone arrived, I took a dagger right above the left shoulder blade.
I woke up laying on my front across Shinjite’s lap right as she pulled out the offending weapon. I could feel my emerald blood pouring out of the wound, sticking my shirt to my back.
I gasped, and winced at the sudden breath. I stood quickly, staring at her with wide eyes. “What are you doing?” I asked her in a panic, trying not to double over in pain.
“Taren, get back down, I need to heal your shoulder,” Shinji both scolded and exclaimed.
I stood there with wide eyes, not knowing exactly what to do.
She glared at me. “Warui,” she muttered, and I immediately fell to the ground.
She quickly peeled away the blood-soaked remains of the back of my royal blue training shirt, and then washed away the green liquid that still flowed from the small hole in my shoulder. She focused her energy and a cool wave washed over the wound as it healed.
She washed away the remaining blood and her eyes widened. “Taren,” she gasped. “What is this?”
She was staring at a large tattoo of swirls, hearts, and some other strange character, spelling out ‘Koru’ across my back, right under my shoulder blades, and ‘Lazuko’ connecting to it like a crossword. It was lavender, and had begun to faintly glow royal purple, yellow, and light blue. The color brightened with every beat of my heart, and faded with every pause.
The tears in my eyes finally overflowed and I stood in one swift motion, holding my blood-soaked hakama to my body. “I-it won’t be long. I… I have to go to the house,” I mumbled and took off.
Shinjite stood and followed me. “Taren, listen to me!” She grabbed my by the shoulders. “What is going on, Taren?” she asked with tears in her eyes.
I sighed heavily and wiped my tears, unable to look her in the eye. “I’ll explain at the house,” and started off to the house again quickly.
As soon as we got to the house, everyone knew something was amiss. I went the dresser and pulled out my best kimono, a royal blue and glimmering gold. I quickly threw it on and began gathering some of my things.
“What’s up with her?” Kaji Da asked Shinji.
Her eyes widened slightly as she looked over at him. “She’s glowing.” She walked into the bedroom as I was brushing my hair out.
“Taren, what is going on? Why are you so freaked?” she asked from the doorway, tears beginning to form in her eyes. “Why does it look like you’re leaving, baby sister?”
I stopped and looked up at her with wide, watery eyes. “He’s coming for me.”
END CH1.
This is the shortest chapter in the story so far. I hope you enjoy it! ^__^
