Here I am again!
It was so refreshing to see people (a few amount) using MyOtaku again, so I'd like to continue keeping up with my posts. I also appreciate the response from my last post, it's good to be heard sometimes after talking about past trauma.
With that being said, I will continue my little series on reflecting on my old posts from almost 20 years ago lmao.
Today's post we will reflect on this one (ironically in time for halloween):
"Saturday, October 9, 2004
ok, i finished my tomboyshopping, but...i dint no wut 2 think cause my mom told me not 2 get anythin w/skulls cause only ppl that believs in stan wears them, and personally, i neva new that.so im not so sure wut 2 think..............................................hmmmmm.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ANYWHO! i had a great time shopping! and i saw an old bff of mine. her name is cara, shes an awsome girl! well, i'll talk 2 ya ppl 2 morrow!"
So yes, my old posts continue to be more cringe but I was a child so >_>
I was constantly belittled on anything I ever wanted to do, any way I wanted to express myself she never let me. I hated wearing feminine clothing as a teen and I was forced to so much of my life. So here I am, at Hot Topic, I really wanted a Jack Skellington sweatshirt. It wasn't completely out of the ordinary for a teenage kid to get merch of The Nightmare Before Christmas for the time. My mom never had me watching it as a kid of course so naturally she wanted to manipulate me to not wear "skull" related items, but like...this is Disney. She literally told me that people were gonna think I worshipped Satan if I had an skulls on my clothes or accessories.
The irony here is that the following year she got me a cute pink sweater with a cute pink SKULL design on the shirt and I commented about how she thought otherwise. And of course, she scolded me and claimed she never said that.
I just wanted to wear what ever the fuck clothes I wanted and my mother never let me express myself. At least I'm an adult now and can wear all of the things, but damn. A skull does not equate Satanism. Tis the season I suppose lol.
