Episode 1: Competition
"Damn it, I'm gonna be late!" said Rhea as she rushed to reach her school. "Of all the days for the stupid alarm clock to break, it'd be on exam day!" Rhea Tsnomaru, a 17-year-old cadet, lives in Shoryuzen Spectrum, the 2nd largest Spectrum. Rhea has a very important test today, which, if she does well, will let her climb the rankings in the class. That is, if she can make it on time.
"I made it!" yelled Rhea as soon as she walked into the door. He classmates stared at her blankly. "What? I made it on time, ddn't I? she asked, curiously. "Yes," said her instructor, Takuro Kaito, "you made it on time for the test, but you're 30 minutes late for class." The class erupted into laughter. "Who cares?" Rhea said as she took her seat. "As long as I didn't missed the test." "Being late for class takes 10 points off your test," Kaito said. "What!!??" she yelled panicked. "No Way!!!!" The class burst into laughter again. "Stupid class," Rhea mumble disappionted.
"Your test will begin in 20 minutes," Kaito said. "I suggest you use your time wisely." The students began studying. "Hmmm...," Rhea thought. "It doesn't matter. This test will be cake anyway." The exam is a live battle exam, which will test how well the students have devloped their control over the elements: fire, water, wind, earth, thunder, and mystic. Rhea controls the power of Thunder through her throwin knives.
Originally, Rhea could summon the power of every element, though she couldn't control them. She nearly destroyed her home Prism, Sukiya, at age 7. Her mother then sent her to Shoryuzen Spectrum, hoping that she could learn to control her power. She was successfully limited to only being able to control thunder. But Rhea thought of her transfer to the Spectrum as her mother abandoning her. Since then, Rhea thinks that she can survive without anyone else.
"Close your books, the exam will now begin," announced Kaito. The students lined up to beginn the exam. "The test will be pretty straightforward. I will use my power over mystic to created a simulated Demagen battlefield. You must destroy each illusionary monster, in the fastest time possible. Any questions?" The class remained silent. "Good," he said. "First one up: Cadet Risho Aminomori." "Fine, the sooner the better," Risho proclaimed arrogantly.
While Rhea is really the top student in the class, Risho is recognized as that. Because she's agirl, Rhea doesn't get recognized for her true power. But she hopes that to use the test to prove herself.
"Ready, Risho?" Kaito said. "Born that way," Risho retorted. Kaito for the illusion. It was a large graveyard. Soon demagen began appearing. Immediately, Risho pulled out his axe and rushed head-first at the nearest Demagen. The monster dissapeared, then reappeared behind him. It attacked, but Risho dodged it, only getting a small knick on his arm. He the slashed the Demagen 1 by 1 until none remained.
"Impressive," Kaito said at the end of Risho's trail. "I told you, I'm the best," Risho said. "Please," retorted Rhea, sarcastically, "Risho, that was pathetic! You almost got your head cut off when you ran head-first like an idiot!" "Enough!" Kaito intervened. "Next cadet in line is, Miss Sairi Myojin." "Yes, Instructor Kaito," Sairi replied.
Sairi is the class president, because she controls the power of mystic, which is governed by the moon. To be chosen to control mystic is considered an honor, because whomever can control mystic can summon the greatest power of all, 5 God's Oblivion. Since she is the only one, besides Kaito, to wield mystic, she was considered the best choice. However, at low levels, mystic is incredibly weak, and only 1 person was able to execute the 5 God's Oblivion, and he'd died instantly.
"Ready, Miss Sairi?" Kaito asked as he prepared his spell. "Ready," she replied. As the illusion formed, Sairi began preparing for a mysitc attack with her staff. As she continued the chant, a Demagen slashed her across the back. "Ahhhh!!" she screamed in pain. Yet, she quickly recovered and her spell was complete. The spell energized her staff, making it an incredible offensive weapon. She carefully attacked the Demagen, to avoid getting hit again.
"How'd I do, Instructor?" she asked, exhausted. "Fairly well," he replied. "She got hammered, Instructor!!" Risho interrupted. "That may be true," Kaito said, "but...." "But she actually used her element to battle," Rhea said. "You just went in and attacked. If I'm not mistaken, the object of the test was to see if we could control our element." "Shut up, Rhea!" Risho retorted. "Who died and made you queen?" "Nobody," she snapped back. "But if you keep talkin, you're gonna wish you were dead!" "Anytime you feel like it," Risho said. "Silence!!" said Kaito. "I've had it with your bickering. Rhea, you're up next. I hope you can back up all your talk." "Oh, you can count on it," replied Rhea.
"Ready, Miss Tsnomaru?" asked Kaito. "Bring it," she anwered. Immediately after the illusion was formed, Rhea quickly deployed her electrically charged throwing knives, symbolizing that she had control over her element, and attacked the Demagen. Her mid-length hair flowed freely as she dodge and attacked the monster with impecable skill and grace. "Peace of cake," Rhea said to herself as she took out the last Demagen. "I've added something special for you, Rhea," Kaito replied. Suddenly, a large Demagen appeared, bigger than any she had faced before. "A Golem?" Rhea replied. "Now we're talkin!" Rhea rushed at the beast. It swung its massive arm down, but Rhea's incredible speed enabled her to doge it. "Now, you're mine!" Rhea yelled. "Lightning Tempest!!" Rhea through 5 throwing knives around the massive creature's body, which then engulfed the creatures in a storm of lightning. "Nothing to it!" Rhea said proudly as the Golem fell in defeat.
"Very impressive," Instructor Kaito said. "I added the Golem as a makeup for 10 points you lost. However, since you defeated it with an attack I hadn't taught you, you don't get the credit." "What?" Rhea said, sadly. "But, I worked really hard...did I at least pass?" "Yes, you did pass, but so far Risho's grade is the highest." Kaito replied. "But I outclassed him in every way!" she yelled. "I'm only following the rules," Kaito said. "That's what you get when you try to show off," Risho said cruelly. The entire class laughed uncontrolably. No longer able to take the sound of their taunting laughter, Rhea ran out of the school and out of the Spectrum, no longer under the protection of its light.
Rhea stood on a plateau that overlooked the barren wasteland of her region of Teragenine. "Why is it that no one will recognize how good I am?" she said to herself sadly. "Who cares? I don't them or anyone else to encourage me. I know I'm the best." She covered her eyes to conceal her tears. "Stupid world," she said "no wonder the Demagen try to destroy it."
Suddenly, Rhea heard a loud rumbling. She sat up, tears still dripping. "Sounds like," she said to herself, "footsteps." The sound grew closer and closer until it came into sight. "An actual Golem type Demagen!" Rhea yelled excitedly. "I'll bring back its head to prove I'm better than Risho, that jerk." Rhea engagedthe giant creature. Just like in the trail, the monster swung its massive arm down, only this time, Rhea barely escaped, "Lightning Tempest!" she yelled. She launched her attack just like the last time. The lightning engulfed the creature. "Well, that was easy," Rhea said. Buy when the storm subsided, the Golem was still standing.
"Unbelievable!" Rhea screamed, frightened, Frozen by fear, Rhea was hit by the monster's massive arms. She brushed off the attack and deployed a barrage of charged throwing knives. But neither of which pierced the monster's skin. It hit the Rhea again, this time, immoblizing her. It then moved in for the kill. "I can't move..." Rhea moaned weakly. "Is this.... the end" The monster raised its arm again, directly over Rhea's head. "He's gonna crush me...." she said. Its hand hand swung down toward her head with amazing force. She closed her eyes and waited her demise.
But it didn't happen. Rhea reopened her eyes and was amazed by what she sa. A man wielding a sword had stopped the Golem's devastating attack at the last second. "Move," the man said coldly. Rhea found the strength to escape from the Golem's grasp, but she only had one thing going through he head, "Who is this guy?"
That's all for now. I hope you like. If you didn't like it, it's probably because i haven't got to the good part yet. But when i do, you'll love it. Remember, pass it on if you like it!
