Episode 5: Affinity

"Gotta hurry, gotta hurry!" yelled Rhea as she got dressed. She quickly pulled a pair of black pants up her long slender legs and over her curvaceous hips. She the put on a white shirt with a low bust, and buckled the sheath of her 2 daggers to her belt loops. Then she slung 2 sashes lined with throwing knives and Shuriken throwing stars over her shoulders. "Damnit," she thought as she laced up her black boots, "Kaito's gonna kill me. I'm still in trouble for that last time." She then grabbed her blue coat and ran out of the arched doorway of her room.

As Rhea rushed through the crowded cobblestone streets of Shoryuzen Spectrum, she noticed something she had never seen before. The streets were lined with warriors who had completed their training. These people rarely mingled in the streets; they spent their time perfecting their craft. I wonder why they're on the streets," Rhea said to herself, still running to her class. "They look as if they're preparing for battle..."

Rhea finnaly arrived at the large gates of the Academy. She proceded into the golden gates and to her class. She ran down the rounded halls, noticing that the were all empty. "Where is everyone?" she thought. "It's way too quiet." Rhea was astonished when she arrived to her class. The room was empty. "Where are they?" she said. "There is no reason why no one is here." An idea then hit her. "Hey, maybe Dr. Masuda will know!"

Meanwhile, Ryujin struggled to make his way to Shoryuzen. He had been fighting scores of Demagen in the valleys of Mt. Shin since sunrise. Exhausted, Ryujin yelled, "Damnit! They just keep coming!" He defeated one group of monsters, and ran through the forested hills of Mt. Shin. Another legion gave chase.

"They seem to be hunting me. Why?" thought Ryujin. He ran into a clearing in the dense forest, and surveyed his surroundings. "I lost them," sighed Ryujin. As soon as he let his guard down, however, a Baskerville attacked him from behind!

Ryujin quickly rebounded and reached for his sword, but it wasn't there. Ryujin gazed in horror at the foaming jaws of the Baskerville. It had his precious blade, and then crushed it. Suddenly, Demage began pouring out of the forest. A golem struck Ryujin in the back and sent him flying into a large tree. Ryujin regained his composure, only to find himself surrounded by the monsters. Ryujin gazed upon these demonic bringers of destruction as the prepared there claws and fangs to massacre him. "Ha," Ryujin laughed apathetically. "So this is how it ends?" The monsters pounced upon Ryujin. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!".....

"....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" shrieked Rhea. "What was that feeling?" she asked herself. "It felt like something clawing at me." Rhea was then greeted by a vision. She saw Ryujin against the tree, being attacked by the swarm of Demagen. Whe she returned to reality, Rhea said, "That was.... Ryujin? Was that real?...No it can't be." She proceded up a winding stairwell until she reached a large door: the office of Dr. Masuda.

Dr. Masuda is head master of Shoryuzen. He had fought in a great Demagen campaign that began 20 years ealier. When the fighting ended, Masuda was given dominion over Shoryuzen.

Rhea enter the door. "Dr. Masuda?" she said quietly. "Rhea?!" Masuda yelled. "What are you doing her?" "How do you know my name?" she replied. "Don't you remember?" Masuda said. "Your mother delivered you directly to me when you were admitted here. But enough of that. Why aren't you in the battle?" "What battle?" Rhea asked. "Late again, huh?" Masuda said. "Scouts spotted a large concentration of Demagen at dawn. All students were told to support the warriors. That's where you should be, Rhea. Ummm...Rhea?" She was already gone.

"Damn," she thought as she sprinted out of the Academy. "How couldn't I have known? I've gotta help!" When Rhea arrived at the gateway out of the Spectrum, she was devastated. Bodies were constantly being brought into the Spectrrum. She swalled her fear, and ventured into the bloddy battlfield.

Rhea's dream flashed in her head. "It's exactly the same..." she solemly said. Demagen poured over the horizon. Corpses were lying everywhere, and only a few were left fighting. Risho and Sairi were among them. "Rhea!!" they screamed as they fought for their lives. "Risho, Sairi!" she responded. Suddenly a Leo demagen pounced on them. "No!!" Rhea yelled petrified.

Rhea rushed to their aid and drove 2 shurikens into the montrous lion's back. Risho and Sairi struggled to their feet. Risho had large gashes on his chest and arms, and a big slash on his right leg. Sairi had several slashes across her chest, and her left arm seemed to broken. "Guys..." Rhea said, "why are you still fighting? You're wounded." "So is everyone else here," Risho replied. "They'll storm the Spectrum unless we stop them!" Sairi added. "Go inside," said Rhea. "I'll take your places." "DOn't be stupid!" Risho yelled. "This isn't the time for u to try to show me up. YOur life is at stake! We should fight together." "There's no point in the both of you dying!!" Rhea responded. "Besides, I can take care of myself." "Rhea..." Sairi said. "Let's go Risho." "Fine," he replied. "YOu had better not die on me." They proceded to the entrance.

Rhea began to engage the Demagen. She threw 5 knives in acircle around a large number of the monsters. "Lighting Tempest!!" she screamed. The thunder blast incinerated everything in it's path. She the proceded to help the other soldiers. She threw 3 shurikens and killed 3 Baskerville in the process. The monster then surrounded her. She fought out as many as she could, but soon ran out of knives. "Damnit," she panicked. "I thought I had more than that." She was then attacked by a Leo. She unsheathed her daggers and slasheed the monsters belly. Out of nowhere, a Vega, a large Demagen resembling a Golem, only with blades for hands. She tried attacking it, but her knives didn't pierce the skin. The Vega knocked the daggers from her hands and proceded to impale Rhea with its deadle hands. Before the monsters attack connected, Kaito took the blow. He then, with his last ounce of strength, stabbed the Vega with his sword. "NO!!!" Rhea screamed.

Rhea grabbed Kaito and tried to comfort him. "Instructor, wake up!!" she cried. "Rhea...I gave you an A on your exam." he coughed. "Don't be mad, okay?" His eyes then closed. "NO..." she cried. "Kaito don't go!!!"

But there was little time for tears, because the monsters began to move in. Rhea was unarmed, and she knew she couldn't defend herself. So she clutched Kaito's bleeding corspe and braced herself for the worst.

"Meteor Crush!!!" a voice yelled. The Demagen were blown away by the attack. Rhea looked up and was amazed at what she saw. "It's you..." she said. "Ryujin. You're okay!" The vision his beating replayed in her head. He was injured by the skirmish, but not fatally so. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Yeah," she replied, as she let go of Kaito's corpse. "Catch," Ryujin said. He reached into his tattered coat and grabbed a pair of gold and black gauntlets and threw them to Rhea. "It's the weapons i promised you. There is a trigger in the palm that deploys the knives. i think this will be a perfect oppurtunity to use them." "Right," Rhea agreed.

They then turned to face the monsters. Using her new gaultlets, Rhea deployed 5 knives, which were immediately energized with electricity. "Incredible," thought Rhea. Ryujin unvieled a new weapon as well. He unsheathed a new sword, that always glowed with a billiant silver light. "Amazing, he obtained a new sword," Rhea said. "How did he get another one so soon?"

The time for questions had to wait. The Demagen attacked, adn Rhea an Ryujin were ready. One by one the 2 warriors slew the Demagen. "Pierce Beam!" yelled Ryujin as a brilliat beam of light emmitted from his sword and killed 5 demagen. Reha dealt with the last group using her favorite technique. "Lightning Tempest!" she screamded, the attack destroyed the with more power than ever.

The battle left the 2 of them exhausted. "Thanks for the save, again," Rhea said to Ryujin. "You're welcome," he replied in his usual melancholy tone. "May I ask.... who was that man you were holding when i came?" "That was Kaito," she said solemnly. "A friend of yours?" he said. "No, more like a father.." Rhea replied. Ryujin look at her strangely. "I see...." he said. Suddenly, footsteps shook the Earth. It seemed as if there battle had not ended yet.....
