St. Valentine's Day
I said I'd never use the heart shaped smile but what the heck, it's the heart day. So, I got my hair cut yesterday. I'm still completely freaking out about it. My hair is my vanity and I miss it so much. Everyone's seen Fullmetal, right? You know Lyra/Dante? My hair looks like that only shorter. My neck is cold. I think they cut nine or ten inches. My beautiful hair! I like it, but it's going to take me a long time to get used to it. And I've never gotten so much attention in a salon that I've been to before. I as been to before because when I first walk in I get like three hair dressers all petting my hair. Yeah, it was that great. They freak out when I ask for a trim so the whole time they're all (I had four people watching and taking pictures, I'm not kidding)asking if I really want to do this as they're chopping my hair. I'll see if I can donate it to Locks of Love. I don't think it's long enough for a woman's wig so some little kid or some boy can get a pretty wig. My good deed for the...first six months of the year. Wow, the hair in the back is shorter then my little brother's.
And now some St. Valentine's Day stuff. St. Valentine's Day got the name from St. Valentine. He was arrested by the Romans and killed. Before he was killed, he had a letter delivered to his beloved and it said 'from your Valentine'. And I think he was killed on the fourteenth. Or he was born on the fourteenth. Something about the fourteenth. So, yeah, that's were some of that came from. The hearts everywhere came from the romantic writer Percy Bishee Shelley and his wife, another romantic/horror writer, Mary Shelley. Percy died and she was far away at the time. They burned bodies back then to stop the spread of sicknesses. One of his friends reached in the fire and pulled out the only not burned thing and gave that to Mary. They said it was his pure heart that only loved her and all that. So for the rest of her life she kept it and women everywhere came to see it because they thought that was the most romantic thing ever. After she died, a doctor bought the Shelley estate and found that box. He never heard the story so I think he threw it away, but it wasn't even Percy's heart, it was his liver. But that's where the hearts everywhere on St. Valentine's Day came from. Like I said, I think it's a marvelous holiday to take advantage of. Go back to the people writing love letters before their exacution and wives keeping the hearts of their dead husbands him mourning, it's brilliant. Romanticism was very dark, not like depressed emo dark, pretty dark (except for all the death and dying stuff). It was dark like that until the whoe Percy and Mary Shelley thing with the heart. Edgar Allen Poe was a romantic and he doesn't strike me as a vision in pink and frills. I've read a few of his stuff more rescently. It's good. He was extremely influencal in modern society, not just literature. The Baltimore Ravens are called that because of his poem, The Raven. Pretty cool.
Epic:
Still just slowly working on some Zephyr stuff. I'm waiting to get that spark I need to start working on Inay. I watched a thing on mobsters and renewed my love of organized crime. I'm disgusted at how Vitto destroyed the mob single handedly. Drugs is the racket you don't want, you idiot. Even I know that. That's the one that'll destroy you, and it did. Maybe I'll work on the Hawkers. They'd be a lot of fun. Happy St. Valentine's Day!
