Well, I'm in California. I got here late the first. California thinks it's not part of the U.S. so we had to go through customs at the Arizona boarder. That was so very...communist of them. Se la ve, things will start getting less weird...hopefully.
I got my apartment the second. It's a descent place. Three bedrooms, two baths. One is in one of the bedrooms so I dont go there. I have four roomates who I have never met before now. Um, let's see...I'm sure I remember all their names now but I'm not posting them. J,V,V,E. And there's a guy here everytime I'm here. I'm sure I got his name down too.
I had a freak out. I felt so old. Everyone was talking about graduating high school and then coming here. And they talked about living 2-4 hours from home. But then I met a couple people from outside the state and some who were older than me. For crying out loud, I'm only twenty so I'm not really that old. I have some advantages because I'm older.
This is an elite school. The work is insane and one of the big problems is these kids want to go party. I don't do that because I'm here to get my work done and get out. Right now, for example, two of my roomates and the guy went off to a party further in the city. Classes start back up Monday and I've already got a lot to do. Banking, shopping, visiting a relative who doesn't know I exsist. So, of course I said I wasn't going. And these are my younger roomates too. All of my roomates but one are eighteen. I don't like parties because they seem completely pointless, so I don't want to go to one were I'm going to be one of the oldest people.
At orientation the third, I was talking to people studying the same program I am, all guys. There are only about five girls. So, I'm talking to these guys and one was almost thirty. That made me feel better about my age. One was twenty and from England, that made me feel better about being so far from everything normal. And the other was younger but from Texas, so that was cool. But the two Americans started talking about times they got drunk. And the British looked like he felt awkward. So, somehow, I think I got us talking about movies. And they were talkng about this one director. Great director and a real jerk. He makes people cry. And they Texan asked if I could do that, because I'm a girl of slight build. I laughed and told them I was a retired ice hockey player. The looks on their faces was great. Completely stunned, some stuttering from the Americans, silence from the other guy, then the Americans started talking about hockey, and I talked writing a little with the other guy. Then I argued with the older guy about football. I won, because I don't lose arguements about football. I think it's more that people are surprised that I know about American football so they forget facts.
But overal it was a long day. I had to wake up early so I stayed in my mom's hotel. She takes the car while I'm at to school so she would've had to pick me up really early, or I would've had to pick her up really early. Since I didn't stay in my apartment then or the night I got it, this will be my first night here. I'm here alone right now, which I kind of like since it's 0:35 over in the east and I'm still on EST. I don't really want to go to sleep without the roomates here. I just don't want to fall asleep and then have them come in and wake me up. I'll never get back to sleep. I'm already going to wake up earlier than them. I keep getting up at six or four in the morning. It'll be nice to get on this time zone.
Oh yeah, my apartment is surrounded by other apartments and parking lots, so all I here is shouting and car engines. That's going to be really annoying. And we have an ant infestation. Thy're all over my room, my bed, just everywhere. Other than that, I'm fine with the place. It's a nice place.
I'm still not finished putting things away. I don't want to though because it's late and I think I'm out of room.
I'll keep this updated as much as I can. And someday I'll get up more pictures of the trip and the ones of my room.
