FLICK FUN ON A FREE FRIDAY
Hey there! Today was one of the most unusual schooldays I've ever had. Why? It's because we had no classes at all!

You see, most of the high school students were outside the school to participate in the MILO Little Olympics. (I'm not one of them, by the way.)

In fact, there were only 8 (out of 24) students in my class. That's less than last July when there were only 13 students present since a lot of us got really sick.

Anyway, since we didn't have classes, our teachers decided to let us have a film showing! Weee!!! The movies they showed were "Evolution" and "Mission to Mars". It was fun, especially in "Evolution" where they defeated the giant alien using a huge amount of Head and Shoulders shampoo. (Ha!)

WHEN ANIME MADE AN IMPACT
After posting two anime-related incidents last weekend, I've decided to make a new segment entitled "When Anime Made An Impact". Part 1 of the segment was the 1997 Pokemon Seizure Incident while Part 2 was the 2003 Evangelion Murder Incident. (If you haven't read them yet, see my Archives.) And for Part 3, we're gona have the 1970's Giant Robot Anime Ban. Here's the excerpt:

Anime was already present in Philippine TV in the 1970's. At this time, "giant robot" anime series like Daimos, Mazinger Z, and Voltes Five were very popular to kids. However, these shows was later banned due to violence. But some Filipinos suspected that the real reason these "giant robot" shows were banned by the government because then-President Ferdinand Marcos didn't like the political theme of these shows. The plot of Voltes Five, for example, was focused on rebels fighting for freedom against a dictatorial aristocracy, which somehow reflected the situation of the Filipinos under the Marcos dictatorship. And since the country was under martial law in this period, media censorship was very common.

In 1981, President Marcos decided to lift martial law, which gave freedom back to media. Then on 1986, Marcos was ousted by the Filipino people through the People Power Revolution. With a new president leading the country, "giant robot" anime were now back on-air.

That's all for today. HAVE A NICE DAY!
