   LONG LIVE THE PHILIPPINES!!!
Hey there guys. Can you smell what The Mask is cookin'?

Before anything else, I would like to say:

Happy 108th Independence Day, Philippines!!!

Well, today's the last day of my vacation. Tomorrow, it's gonna be the beginning of my college education.

Honestly, I still can't believe that I'm going once again to school in a matter of hours. What's even more unbelievable to me right now is the fact that I'm no longer going to my old high school. Maybe by tomorrow, I'm gonna be used to everything.

On site stuff, theOtaku.com didn't approve my article. I can't blame them, though. I myself think it wasn't really that good. I'll post the article soon so that you can judge it yourself.

As for the Internet group that I was joining, my membership has not yet been confirmed. So I'll just have to wait for some more days.

Now let's go to a very special edition of TODAY'S SPECIAL

Uniquely Philippines: An Independence Day Special
The Philippines is truly a unique country. It is a country filled with landmarks that never fail to catch a person’s interest. It is also a country filled with people so cheerful and hospitable that one would love staying in this beautiful country.

(Not to mention the fact that a lot of things in this nation are a lot cheaper here than the ones sold in other countries.)

Anyway, in commemoration of the 108th Independence Day, here are some factoids about this unique country that will make you shout words like, “Whoa”, “Nice”, “S**t”, and other four-letter words:

- The Philippines is the world’s 3rd largest English-speaking country, and it’s just next to the United States and United Kingdom.

- The Mayon Volcano in the Bicol region is known for its perfect cone. Its shape is so beautiful that a distinguished British traveler-writer by the name of A. Henry Savage Landor wrote: Mayon is the most beautiful mountain I have ever seen, the world-renowned Fujiyama (Mt.Fuji) of Japan sinking into perfect insignificance by comparison.

- Current WWE superstar Batista is regarded as the first-ever Filipino-blooded pro-wrestler to become world champion.

- "Pinoy Big Brother", the Philippine version of the world-famous reality series, was regarded as being the first Big Brother series to have an altar and a Sunday service in the Big Brother house.

- The '70s mecha anime series, "Voltes V", is arguably the most popular anime series of all time in the Philippines. It first aired in the 1970s, but was pulled off the air by then-President Ferdinand Marcos. Decades later, and with Marcos out of the presidency, the theme song of this anime show was featured in a segment on the comedy show, "Bubble Gang". This eventually led to the revival of the series. It became popular to the young and the old, and it was a significant key to the anime craze in the Philippines today.

- Did you know that current Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and current U.S. President George W. Bush have a lot in common? They were the children of former presidents (Macapagal and H.W. Bush), took oath in their first term as presidents on the same day (January 20, 2001), and were the successors of leaders who faced impeachment during their term & were well-known womanizers. (Estrada and Clinton.) Oh, and they're also suffering from low popularity ratings recently.

- Filipino National Artist Levi Celerio has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the only man who could play beautiful music with a leaf.

- The Philippine Airlines is Asia's first airline. It started operation on March 15, 1941, using a Beech Model 18 aircraft, despite an ongoing global war.

- A Filipino by the name of Nelson "Rey" Bohol is behind the visual development of the animated flicks, "Finding Nemo", "The Incredibles", and the recent blockbuster hit, "Cars". That explains why there's a little Filipino touch in these films.

- The English word, "boondock" was taken from the Tagalog word, "bundok", which means "mountain".

- "What's still most impressive to me about the Philippines is the friendliness of the people, their sense of humor...," wrote Honolulu journalist John Griffin in a 1998 visit to Manila.

And so ends our little feature. To end this post, here's a Fruits Basket AMV featuring the Filipino song, "With A Smile":

That's all for today. HAVE A NICE DAY!
