Status Summary
"Ah, come on Karen, it's fun" my friend Alicia said smiling form ear to ear climbing onto the ledge of the apartment.
"Alicia, one day you're gonna fall and crack your head open."
"Don't worry about it," she said distantly staring off as she started to walk along the edge, the wind gently blowing her long black hair. Silence came as I started to scoot over to a nice spot to sit in the shade on the roof top of our apartment. It was sunny day, and only a few clouds passed by. The birds seemed to be singing this sweet melody, as if they were really singing, like they had a song to sing.
It was sort of weird though, since Karo city hasn't had any birds tweeting for about 2 weeks. It's sort of a quick depression stage like we usually have every couple of years. People lose jobs, many people become sick, and the city seems to fall apart at its seems. Except, my family, the Martins, seem to not be affected by it. We live are lives on with good health, staying together, and leading a normal life.
Many people believe if they stay around are family, their luck will grow, and they can get through the depression smoothly. It sometimes seems to be true, sometimes...I think it’s a whole bunch of boloney.
A shriek was heard as I came form my thoughts, to see my friend falling backwards off the building. I watched as her summer blue dress, disappeared over the ledge.
My heart jumped, and my stomach twisted, and before a second went by I already had threw myself over the side of the building after her, head first. Wind hit my face as I looked down to see Alicia, hand outstretched and falling backwards. She stared at me with terror on her face, wanting to reach out to me, to be saved.
I held out my hand, trying to reach hers, trying to help. Tears flowed down her pale face as we continued to fall. Her guardian angel wasn’t coming, and I couldn’t reach her. Then, I finally realized I was falling also.

I shot up straight in my bed as my alarm clock beeped its announcement to wake up. Beads off sweat covered my forehead, as I breathed heavily, my lungs gasping for air. I calmed down, taking a deep breath, closing my eyes.
I turned off my alarm, staring at the time, 6:15am. I looked around my room finding everything still the same. My almost completely red room, with a yellow sunflower flower on my desk next to my bed. The flower was left in front of my room one day around when I was 5 year old. I’ve always thought it came form my mom, maybe from my dad. Who knew...? All that mattered was, that the flower was still living after about 9 years.
Sitting there with it perfect stem, and it’s perfect flower. In a glass vase filled with water I change every three days. I stared at the flower for awhile, then got out of bed to get ready for school, if I was going to beat my brother L.J. to the bathroom today. Finally, when I was coming to the kitchen, I rushed to the smell of toast, eggs, and honey. My mother smiled as her head turned away from the kitchen counter and her red and curly hair bounced on her shoulders.
“I see you’re awake ,go ahead and sit down, breakfast is almost done.”, she turned back to chopping celery as I sat down at are table. I looked around tapping my fingers on the wooden table, humming to myself. Today seemed different, in a good way. Despite the nightmare, everything was going just like something important was to happen. I mean, who wakes up in the middle of a depression smiling, and eating a good breakfast? Then being the first person to get to the bathroom in the morning before your brother who takes longer then a girl? No one but me.
As a plate was set in front of me, I came form my thoughts to see my mom’s smiling face. I always thought my mom was beautiful, and I always wish I had gotten her hair too; but I ended up with my dad’s and so did my brother.
“Thanks, mom. You haven’t cooked breakfast like this in a long time, what’s the occasion?”, I asked knowing something big was gonna happen when she cooked a big breakfast.
“What are you talking about?”,her mother said solemnly as she sat down, “I can’t cook a nice breakfast for my family every once in awhile?”
“No, because you never do in the first place.”, I said taking a bite of toast, “So, what’s going on?”
“Sometimes, you ask way to much, Karen.”
“But, it not natural for you to cook breakfast, and it’s usually when something big is about to happen I have a right to ask ”
My mother sighed as she began to slowly start on her food. L.J. came down with headphones covering his ears, as his messy hair covered his face. He stopped in his tracks, pulling down his headphones, as he finally recognized the breakfast laid out on the table.
“Okay, who’s dying?”, he said with a serious tone. I stifled a laugh as he mother gave a heavy sigh.
“There’s nothing wrong or there’s nothing big, why can’t either of you understand that? I’m just trying to be more....motherly.” she said saying the last word with pride.
“Whatever.”, L.J. shrugged as he sat down at the small square table with us. I smiled as I finished my toast, this was gonna be an interesting day.

“And you know what Yumi said? She said ‘Oh, I forgot’ I mean, who forgets about the biggest project of this quarter? Tell me that Karen?”, Alicia chattered on as her frustration seemed to be rising every second.
“Well, that’s Yumi, I told you not to partner up with her.”I said, not taking to much worry into it. It was Alicia’s choice to work alone, with Yumi or with me. She choose the worst of them all.
“I wonder will happen to my garde ”, she gasped, “ I mean, they were already on brink of total destruction ”, I stared at the ground deep in thought about my dream as Alicia continued her rant. The dream disturb me more then ever, me and Alicia have known each other since we were born. We lived in the same apartment building our whole lives, and are moms used to be best friends also. Even though me and Alicia are almost complete opposites, it would hard to live without her.
“Are you even listening? This is a major crisis,!” she yelled interrupting me from my thoughts.
I looked up at her as her face softened.
“What’s wrong? Did I yell at you to loud, I’m sorry-“
“It’s not that...I was just thinking about a dream I had, that’s all.” I said interrupting her.
“Oh....”
“Hey Wait up ”, a voice shrieked behind us. Me and Alicia turned to see our friend Yumi running, out of breath. As she came up beside us, Alicia smacked Yumi aside the head.
“Ow ”, Yumi whined as she rubbed the back of her head.
“That’s what you get for forgetting to do you part of the project.”
“But, you should know by now to trust with such heavy burdens, Alicia ,” Yumi protested,.
“Well, I trusted you this time, and you blew it ”
“Um, what exactly was the project about?,” I asked.
“It was a science project, and the biggest one of the year at that ,” Alicia replied, as if I didn’t know that, I wanted know the topic.
“I’m sorry, really,” Yumi said bowing her head, “ I had half of it done, but then I fell asleep...do you know how boring chemicals are? They’re so boring, they but you to sleep.”
Alicia sighed in frustration and closed her eyes, “It’s ok Yumi. I’ll just do the make up 5 page report, okay?”
Yumi nodded as she stared at the ground, knowing that this time she really had messed up. You see, Alicia is like a big sister to Yumi, and when Alicia get disappointed at her, Yumi usually becomes depressed. Yumi isn’t as a close of a friend as Alicia, but I’ve known her for 2 years, and Alicia has never been as upset with her.
As we entered are school, the buzz of students seemed to be the same as always. Are vice principals constantly stopping kids from breaking the rules and boys flirting with girls. Mrs. Hums was just as noisy as ever as she listened in on students’ conversations, and students kept a good eye out for Principal Higgins. Yep, everything was just the way it was supposed to be, but...
The buzz of students seemed even more buzzed, the vice principals seemed a little less edgy, the boys seemed to be flirting more then usual, Mrs. Hums seemed to be more sneakier and Principal Higgins was nowhere to be seen.
Yes, today, something important is going to happen, something big.

His hair glowed in the afternoon sun as it seemed to fit perfectly, golden on top of his head. It seemed like a curly fortress of gold, shining beautifully and fully. If I got into detail, this story
might not be PG-13 anymore, but he had abs. I saw it when he lifted his shirt to wipe the sweat of his forehead. He was well toned, as if the sun only was there to make his skin glow. He was
just a bit taller then me, and even though his nose was slightly big, everything else was just....so....
“Hey ,” a soccer ball whacked me in the back of my head as it thunked in the grass in front of me. I looked behind to glare at a well known raven haired boy I had been friends with almost as long as Alicia, Craig, “Chop, chop. Stop daydreaming about Mr. Gorgeous over there, and help me put up the balls the teacher said.”
“Fine,” I mumbled as I stumbled up climbing up the small little hill leading down to the soccer field. It was gym, and since it was Wednesday, it’s was co-ed. This was about the only time I ever got to stare at Darren, you know, the delicious muscle man I was describing earlier.
“I don’t know what you see in him anyway, he’s just another mindless guy who has muscles.”
“He’s in all honor classes, Krig,” I said throwing a soccer ball towards him so he could put it into the ball cage beside him. Krig was a nickname Alicia and me gave him.
He scoffed, “ Sure, I bet he’s only in there because he plays sports.”
“You’re just jealous.”
“Why would I be jealous?”
“Because you have a crush on me,” I wanted to say, because it was almost obvious. He always got defensive when I talked to other guys and followed my around like a sick puppy every time Alicia, Yumi, him and me would go out to he movies or something.
“Never mind,” I mumbled, trying to keep a smile form coming onto my face.
“Need any help?,” a voice said coming up from behind me. I turned around to Darren, out of breath, coming alongside right next to me.
“We’re fine,” Krig said, not even glancing up.
I so badly wanted to say something like “Ignore him, he’s like that sometimes.” or “Sure, that would be great ” but instead I just stood there staring at him as he presence stunned me. I tried to get words out of my mouth but they wouldn’t come.
“Oh,” Darren said , then looked towards me, “aren’t you L.J.’s little sis?”
I nodded blushing, unable to talk.
Darren chuckled, “Thought so, hope to see you around soon.”, and then my prince galloped away on his white stallion.
Krig cleared his throat as I came out of my daze, “Come on, hurry up so we won’t be late for I next class.” I nodded and quickly started to pick up more balls to throw to Krig.
