My Kitty Is Sick
For the last few months, the cat has been congested, hacking, and sneezing. We finally got him in to see the vet yesterday (Monday), and they wanted him back early this morning so they could have time during the day to run some tests, get chest X-rays, etc. I don't envy him for the bad day he's going to have, but I hope they find out what's wrong and are able to help him.
Plus he's got gingivitis on his teeth o_O We'll probably have to get some dental work on him when he's better. But the vet isn't very concrened about it. To do dental work, the cat would have to be anesthetized, which is risky at his age - he's nearly 18.
It's nice to hear everyone enthusiastic about Claymore. I still have my downloads (ahem), I should go back and watch them because I never did finish the show. I can't say much of the plot because of that, but I can gurantee the animation is stellar stuff, absolutely beautiful.
By the way, did any of you ever watch Tokyo Majin in fansubs? I'm kind of interested in it now that it's being released on DVD, but I never got the chance to watch it before. Reviews on the first volume don't agree on some things. The review on ANN said the animation was "lackluster" while AnimeOnDVD said it had "great visuals". I managed to find an AMV for it, using the full version of 1st OP, and I'm rather leaning toward AnimeOnDVD's assesment.
I was seriously wondering when this was going to happen, but it finally has: FUNimation has liscenced the Claymore anime!
A friend over at the Anime Pulse forums showed me a link for a countdown to FUNi's "first major acquisition of 2008'. Part of me was desperately hoping it would be news about certain Geneon titles being given to other companies, but this news is just as exciting.
Of course, now I'll be antsy for details about a release date and casting. With so many women in Claymore, they'll probably have to bring in just about every female VA from across the board for the project. Can't wait to see what names crop up.
In other news, animation studio GONZO and Progressive Metal band Dream Theater recently teamed up to produce an animated music video for the band's song "Forsaken" off their new album Systematic Chaos. The video concept was based on the short story "Phantoms" by Ivan Turgenev. To read the full article CLICK HERE.

Allamorph: That kid your dad knew wasn't named Patrick Stewart, was he? XD
Red: Yeah, I still get facial breakouts from time to time. It's so annoying o_O
Non Fiction: I am 100% irgnorant when it comes to computer/internet technicalities. I wish my brother-in-law lived closer to us, he's the tech geek.
Yeah, thin/fine hair genetics run on both side of my family, so I was cursed from birth. But I'll do my best to fight the curse =P
Tomieharley: I don't like bald though o_O One time, a lady at the barber shop almost shaved me down to nothing, and I was so mortified I refused to go out for a week until it started growing back in. I'm not a fan of the 'cueball' look at all ^^'
Um... nope, no hurricane o_O We only get those from beginning of June to the end of November. If we had a hurricane right now, then global warming really IS true and the whole planet would be f*cked.
What the...?
OK, internet still isn't working on my computer, but it IS on the living room computer. I'm on it right now.
I have no idea what's going on...
NEVERMIND, NOW IT'S WORKING AGAIN!
Boy, I feel like my head is about to spin right off my neck @_@ Comments (2) |

Lousy Weather
It was raining and storming most of the day, and tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same. Guess it's a good thing I don't have anywhere to go.
The internet has just now acted up again. This time it is a net problem and not a power problem; the cable froze up at the same time. I'm just glad my laptop has a wireless card for whenever things like this happen.
The cable is back on now and the internet SHOULD be working, but it isn't still ><'
My dad bought some hair restore products recently; it's 3 separate products you use in a particular sequence. So, I started using it today =P
I think being sick over the last year has kind of done it's part to get my hair thinning some. But then, I am getting older too, and it's not odd for men in their late 20s to start losing some hair. I'm not ready for this to happen. so I'm going to do everything I can to halt the process =P Comments (5) |

Mnemosyne
I'd heard about this new anime some time ago on TheO, and now the first episode has finally been subbed...
Oh wow, was this ever right up my alley. Plenty of mystery and action, and an enigmatic and interesting lead character.
Rin Asogi and her partner Mimi run a detective agency. One day Rin rescues Koki Maeno, a man with a scrambled memory. Rin decides to help Maeno find out more about his past, while at the same time dodging an assassin out for her blood.
The only downside to this series is that it is an OVA planned for 6 episodes. When something is that short, I worry that there won't be enough room to reveal and explain everything satisfactorily, even with 45 minute episodes. That said, being an OVA also gives Mnemosyne the advantage of higher-quality animation than standard TV anime.
This first episode focuses mainly on the mystery behind Maeno's origins, but we are also left with many more mysteries surrounding Rin, including why she has an assassin on her tail.
WARNING: This series is recommended for mature audiences. There is violence, blood, nudity, and some rather intense torture scenes that are bloody AND quite sexual in nature. Sayara Yamanobe, the villain of this first episode, plays with Rin and gives her piercings in every imaginable place, and then some. Squeamish and/or young viewers be warned!
Another aspect of Mnemosyne I enjoyed immensely was the OP/ED themes - "Alsatia" and "Cause Disarry" by Galneryus. They are great rock/heavy metal songs and really fit the tone of the series. They don't feel like the J-pop single of the moment just tacked on as an afterthought. And I really dig the idea of a Japanese power/neoclassical metal band that sings in English most of the time. I'll be trying my best to find more of their music.
So, if you're looking for a new anime to check out, you can't go wrong with Mnemosyne. Be prepared for a long wait between episodes though. Episode 2 won't be out until early March.

2short: It was down in the 50s/40s last night, which is pretty cold, especially for me. Because of my health and being terminally skinny, I get cold quickly and easily.
The problem is the heater unit for our home is on the fritz, and it won't kick on when it's that cold outside, which makes my room cold. Therefore, I plug in a space heater to keep it warm enough so I won't be shivering all night =) Comments (4) |

PROBLEM SOLVED!
And I feel a little bit stupid. Turns out the space heater must've overloaded the capacity of the power strip. In the end all that was needed was to locate a tiny switch on one side and reset it.
So now everything is working and all is right with the world.
FRAKING INTERNET! GRBLFLGH!
I've only just now (4 PM) found a way online. The internet has been down all day, and I have no idea what the exact problem is.
The box itself is dead now, no lights flashing on it at all. So, of course, I began to assume that it was the battery.
However, now I think it may be something wrong with the power coming into my room, because the TV, VCR/DVD player, and cable box are down, and the phone line is down too (we have phone through the cable system). My laptop was plugged in, but wouldn't start - it had switched to battery power, and it's battery never holds a charge. But... my PC and room lights ARE working.
I had to resort to plugging in the laptop in the living room and using a different network connection.
So basically, I have no idea where the problem is coming from D: Comments (2) |

Yes, I am still alive
I don't usually go very long between posts, but to be honest there hasn't been much going on this week that I felt was worthy of mention. Not even posting a random video like I often do =P
Grandma was put on a slightly weaker pain medication, because the narcotic they had given her before was very likely contributing to her nausea.
We finally filled her perscription for an arm-rest that we could attach to her walker. This way she doesnt have to lean over so far to rest the elbow of her hurt arm.
Of course, since it's the start of a new month, I had to order some new CDs =P Made a large order of 7, then an order of 2 a couple of days after. I've still got a decent amount of money on my credit card, so as long as I can stay satisfied with these 9 CDs for this month, I will have succeeded at budgeting myself XD
It helped this time around that four of the CDs were on sale - $5, $6, $7, and $8. This helped keep the cost on a large order down considerably.
Quite a bit of stuff happened locally today:
- A lady from church passed away early this morning. She'd been fighting a couple different cancers for awhile, and from the way my Dad had talked about her condition recently, I wasn't too surprised that she died. I wasn't particularly close to her, but it's still sad.
- Two elementary schools in Orange County were under lockdown due to a nearby hostage situation. Eventually the suspect surrendered, and it turned out he was the guy everyone's been after for attacking and severely injuring a female deputy.
- My Dad said he heard on the radio that the middle school he works at was under lockdown too because of a bank robbery; he wasn't there at the time because of a dentist appointment. The odd thing is, there was nothing at all about it on the local news, nothing about it on the regional school system website, and he couldn't get through to the school by phone either. So I guess we'll find out tomorrow if it really happened, or the people on the radio goofed up.
This Tuesday was the anniversary of my Grandma and Grandpa's wedding. Grandpa has been gone for the last almost-12 years, and I talked to Dad about getting a cake and just having us all go over and spend some time with Grandma. We'll do that on Saturday.

Raina: OK, I'll be your kitty when I'm reincarnated ^^
Nikorasu: Nope, I was never much of a Buffy fan. My ex-girlfriend was the Buffy fan, I was the Angel fan =P
Schultzie: I agree, Bab 5 needs more love.
Red: I'm also an SG1 and Farscape fan ^^ I plan on rewatching a bunch of my scifi shows I havent seen in awhile.
CosmicSailor: If you ever get the chance, get caught up on Babaylon 5. I became a fan when 5th Season started, so I was watching new ones while watching all the reruns at the same time =P
Ink.Black.Sky: Excellent, now we've broaded the podcast's audience by one ^^
Miss Anonymous: Yes, Joss Whedon created Buffy, Angel, and Firefly =) Comments (5) |

Grr Argh!
I've rediscovered my Angel fandom lately: reading fanfics, watching the DVDs again, finally buying Season 5, and... Angel: After The Fall
This comic series is billed as 'Season 6', the official, cannonical continuation of the TV show. And as a fan who was EXTREMELY pissed off that they cancelled Angel on a cliffhanger, I'm overjoyed that this is finally seeing the light of day.
Usually I don't have any interest in comics; all I own are a few collections of comic strips from Doctor Who Magazine and the V For Vendetta graphic novel. So today was a first for me, actually going into a comic book shop with the intent of buying comic books.
Oh, and if you got the reference of the post title, you get a cookie ^^
I'm also feeling the desire to dive back into Babylon 5...

Ichigo: I'll be hovering over the computer all day when VV is expected to go live just to make sure I get The Watercooler registered quick.
SomeGuy: Nice to know none of us will have random twins on here =P
2Short: Yep, I ran with the Watercooler idea and got everyone onboard for it, so I guess I'll be it's primary caretaker, although everyone will have their voice too.
And we always order pizza from Pappa John's.
Nikorasu: My biggest problem is when I'm at stop lights. When I'm just sitting there, I have less to focus on than if I were in motion, so that's when my mind really tries to play games with me.
Raina: A kitty reminded you of me? Heh, if reincarnation exists, I would absolutely want to come back as a cat.
Ink.Black.Sky: Sorry you have a slow connection, but definitely listen to the podcast and join in on the fun.
And thanks to everyone who put in a kind word for my Grandma. It'll take time, but she'll heal. It's times like these that it's a good thing I don't have a job or outside life, it lets me be here when she needs me. Comments (9) |

Update on Grandma
Because Grandma's regular doctor is sick, she was given an appointment today with someone else, and we had to take quite a long drive in order to get there.
Of course, I've been spazzing over it for the last day or so, but in the end I managed to stay relatively calm. I think once I get over the initial nervousness about going out and having to drive, I can get things done. I still have to have someone with me though, but that was no problem in this case.
We waited in the office for an hour before they finally called us back, and the talk with the physician only took five minutes.
Grandma has a tiny break in her wrist bone, but she was dead set against a cast so they said as long as she's careful she can keep it in a splint. All we got was a perscription for an 'arm shelf' to attach to her walker so she doesn't have to lean down too far on the left side to rest her arm.
I was glad to hear Ichigo and Batou approving of the idea for the Watercooler. I hope Version Vibrant is up an running soon. When it is, I'll put all my effort into getting the Watercooler up and running.
I just ordered pizza, so it's time to kick back for the evening. And M*A*S*H is on too =) Comments (8) |
