In Flames - The Quiet Place
And now, the opposite end of the spectrum...
Previously, you all got a taste of the lighter, rock side of my music with The Flower Kings. Now you'll hear the other extreme as I dip into heavy metal.
Here is In Flames with "The Quiet Place" from Soundtrack To Your Escape.
My Current Anime - Key The Metal Idol Key is a 15-episode OVA series that was originally released between 1994-97. The series is a mix of sci-fi, drama, supernatural, action, and suspense.
The Plot:
The main character, Tokiko "Key" Mima is a robot, emotionless and naive of human nature. When her grandfather (creator) dies, Key travels to Tokyo to carry out his last message: Key can become human if she makes 30,000 friends.
However, the shadowy corporation Ajo Heavy Industries is soon on her trail, intent on posessing her secrets... secrets even Key is unaware of.

Very often overlooked and not widely known, Key is one of those 'diamond in the rough' anime gems I enjoy. It has a complex and mature storyline, and the mysteries come along one after the other. If you're a fan of anime you have to really pay attention to and think while you're watching, Key fits the bill perfectly.
And to give you a bit of a taste of what the series is like, here is a Key AMV
The Flower Kings - Life Will Kill You
Not much new happening, so I thought it'd be a good time to share a video.
Every month, I order a couple batches of new CDs. Among my most recent purchases were some albums by The Flower Kings, an awsome Swedish Prog-Rock band with great retro style, harkening back to the days of Yes and Genesis.
Here is a video of them performing the song "Life Will Kill You" from their album Paradox Hotel.
Timba's Question: My Avenue Q Verse
OK, so I finally went and listened to the song "It Sucks To Be Me". I think it would take me a long time to think up a verse of my own off the top of my head (my creativity is badly out of practice), so instead I will rip-off a verse that's already in the song which perfectly applies to me:
What do you do with a BA in English?
What is my life going to be?
Four years of college, and plenty of knowledge
Have earned me this useless degree.
I can't pay the bills yet, cuz I have no skills yet.
The world is a big scary place!
But somehow I can't shake the feeling I might make a difference to the human race!
Why did I pick this verse? Because I have a BA in English and I'm unemployed! It sucks to be me!! =P Comments (3) |

Q & A - Answers
I don't think I'm going to get anymore questions at this point. Not like my place is a hub of activity anyway. So here are your answers...
darkeangel:
Why not?
SomeGuy:
Most of my dirty humor is off-the-cuff, just messing around with friends, but I suppose I do have one favorite dirty joke. From the Monty Python gang:
"I'm tired of all this sex on the television; I mean, I keep falling off!"
Hope you liked it =P
tsubusa no neko:
The dino-chicken and the dino-egg.
GIDRA:
I have good news, hopefully. I was Skyping with a friend the other night, and she showed me her profile on a site called MOG. She says it's free and you can load your own music and put it on your blog too, AND it doesn't cut things down to clips like imeem.
I'll be checking it out tomorrow, so with any luck I'll have music back up on my site soon =) Comments (3) |

The Q & A
That's right, I'm doing my own Q & A now. Just couldn't help myself.
Bit of a change...
Another icon change. Don't you wish you could find one icon that perfectly represents you, that you could be happy with forever? Alas, we humans are so fickle...
Decided to throw up some random info about what I'm into at the moment too fill the empty space of the site header. I'm still looking for a good playlist program so I can load tunes from my computer, and that won't reduce them to 30-second clips.
Not much else to say for now. Gotta drop off my car insurance payment and grab some lunch, then I'm back here to watch some more Key The Metal Idol. When I'm done with the series, I'll talk about it a little and post an AMV that will give you a good idea of what it's like. Comments (1) |

Nightwish
Made my very firt submission to TheOtaku today - a Mushishi E-card. Since any monkey with Paint can make E-cards, I think that will be the extent of my contributions to the site for awhile.
And now, to celebrate the release of their new album, here is a video from Nightwish. Hope you enjoy.
Worst month in a bad year
Not that there haven't been some good things that have come out of this year, but it seems like a lot of bad stuff has just been happening left and right this month.
1) Anime Pavilion, our local shop, going out of business. I've mentioned this before, and it's going to irritate me for a good long time, I'm sure. They were very good for getting older anime and certain manga, and now that resource will be gone forever.
2) Geneon USA folding. Right in the middle of Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, AND Higurashi Season 1! And from some of the things I've heard, the writing on the wall has been there for some time that this would happen, yet they still continued to liscence shows. And now we're stuck with the consequences as certain shows are left in indefinite limbo.
3) I don't keep up with music news as well as anime, so I just learned today that Mac (Andrew McDermott), vocalist of Threshold (one of my favorite bands), has left the group. I can't fault him for his reason of wanting to devote more time to family, but it's a very low blow to fans. Threshold was plagued with constant lineup changes in their early years, going through a couple of vocalists before Mac took over the mic in 1998. His amazing voice has served with distinction and he will be sadly missed. Now the question becomes: who will the band find to replace him? At the moment, in order to finish a few gigs already booked, one of their former vocalists has graciously stepped back in to assist.
I'm trying not to think about all these things too much, because when I do my mood goes right back down the drain. Comments (0) |
