The Burning of Old Man Gloom
today was major for me, i'll tell you what happened after an explanation:
so if you dont live in my town you dont know what Zozobra is. Zozobra is our pagen ritual where we burn a 30 ft puppet that is all white, has brightly colored hair and sad eyes.Supposably he is Gloom and sorrow in its solid form. so every year when they're about to burn him a guy with a box comes out and says "here is the sorrow box, put all your sorrows inside and we'll burn them with Zozobra" and you throw all your sadness into it. basicly its supposed to make you happier or something.
so anyway, one of my friends from out of state visited so we were walking around town. i saw a building and remembered where the zozbra burnage stadium was and was like "oh!! lets go there!!" so we walked there. we went up the huge hill to where he stands while he burns, the armature for the puppet is always left up there, its all black from being burned every year lol. anyway me and my friend sat under this talking about stuff when suddenly he stands up and says "stand up". so i do. "come closer" he says, so i do. then he kisses me and tells me he's wanted to since 6th grade. I babble incoherently like, i do love him and i tell him that. I dont know what to do and he says "you could kiss me back" and i do, it was amazing. i was almost crying with happiness.
I find it funny that only last year i threw the sorrow "I've haven't had my first kiss yet" into the box to be placed in Zozobra, and under his burned armature i get my first kiss and boyfriend.
after that we walked around town some more, holding hands the whole way. I'm so happy ^_^
