One of my favorite pairings from my story...
Gekko Hayateko was training extremely hard. Sweat poured from fis forehead, and his arms felt like dead weights. His katana, which had gleamed that morning, was now dull from the beating of its life. All of Hayateko's muscles were screaming. But he didn't give up.
He knew someone was watching him. Maybe Sada-kun, maybe Akiko. Either one wouldn't get the pleasure of seeing him fall on his ass and scream, which he was desperate to do. His scar hurt like Holy Hell as the stitches began to loosen and tighten in a continuous stream of agony. Soon, he'd start to bleed, to the point of fainting. When he woke up, he'd take chakra thread and repair the damage, as always.
A young girl with big black eyes and soft tan skin watched silently from the shadows. Her heart ached at every groan and obscenity her love let out.
She was afraid for him. Hayateko always did the same thing. Trained until his wound opened and bled, flooding the grass beneath him in crimson anguish. Then he awoke shortly before dawn and repaired himself with chakra. It scared her so much.
"Hayateko-kun." she whispered, staring at the full moon overhead.
Hayateko looked up at the moon, his body still moving with his training. He felt liquid seep onto his shirt, then onto vest. "Not now!" he commanded. Nobody listened but the girl behind the tree. Hayateko felt his head grow light, then his legs fall out from under him. Finally, he faded into darkness, like all the nightmares of his past.
The girl shed a silent tear, holding onto her brown braid. "Haya..."
Hayateko woke up the next morning in a cheery blue and yellow room, his first thought being 'I died, and I went to Hell' He rolled over, only to see his old teammate's student, Umino Kurohotaru. He let out a startled 'Meep' and then realized he was in Kurohotaru's house.
"Mr. Examiner, you are a Dumbass if ever there was a Dumbass." Kurohotaru quirped. "Unh... Shut up, Kurohotaru." he moaned. He prepared his chakra, only to realize his wound had been washed, sewn, and bandaged with exceptional medical skill. He blinked, then looked at Kurohotaru. "You--"
"Tsumi-Ane did it. Don't look at me." Kurohotaru smirked. She shrugged, moving a strand of brown hair out of her face. "I'd take the credit, if she hadn't've saved your life." Kurohotaru said. Hayayteko jolted up, the black silk covers that were on top of him sliding off to show his strong, pale body. Kurohotaru flushed a deep pink. "Uh, Proctor?" she stuttered.
"Where is she?" Hayateko asked. "The Academy..." Kurohotaru said, turning a darker shade. "Allright. I'll go see her!" he said, tossing the covers aside. He threw a shirt on and was about to open the sliding door out of what was Umino Iruka and Namiko's room when Kurohotaru finally shouted "HAYATEKO-SENSEI, YOU'RE NAKED!!!", only making her a dark crimson, darker than blood. Hayateko stopped in mid-step, blushing as well. He turned, threw on the first pair of underwear he could find (Tsumi had many of Hayateko's, since she was his #1 Fangirl), tossed on a pair of hanamino (Skirt like pants, think Rurouni Kenshin's pants), slid on his sandals, muttered a half-hearted 'Domo Arrigato Domigazu' to Kurohotaru, then left.
He enered not the street that was in front of the Umino house, but a family shrine. Kurohotaru was behind him in an instant. She punched him halfway to Hell and threw him out another door onto the street. Hayateko landed on his much-admired ass. "Crap..." he muttered.
Umino Tsumi stared out the window next to her desk. She felt like a bird, lost and broken winged in a cage of rust. She was a princess in a tower. She wanted to be free. She needed a kind boy to open the cage. She needed a knight to save her.
Almost, as if on cue, a familiar song started up.
"Where have all the good men gone and where are all the Gods? Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds? I need a white night upon a firey steed."
"Amen..." Tsumi muttered. She looked up to see Sarutobi Kohaku and Morino Suzu bent over a blue i-pod with speakers. They were in trouble, as usual, and they both knew it.
"KOHAKU! SUZU! SIT DOWN AND DO YOUR WORK!" she screamed. "Yes ma'am!" Suzu said immediatley, doing as he was told. Kohaku stuck out his tongue defiantly, then sat down and tossed the music device onto his sesnei's desk as she moved her seat back. Tsumi smiled, then looked out the window again with a sigh.
"Um, Umino-san?" a genin helper said, peeking in through the door. Tsumi jolted up. "Yes?" she said once her heart resumed its normal pace again. "Um, you have a vistor who asked you to come with him... He brought a, um, Ka... Kamizuki Shinku-san to cover you..." the shy girl said. Tsumi was confused, but nodded. "Understood." she said.
Shinku walked in, looking as flawless as ever, save but for the mischevious green eyes and constant, mocking smirk. "I'll take the brats for you, Tsu-chan." Shinku said. "Oh... I hate you." she said as she sat in Tsumi's desk. "wha?" Tsumi muttered.
Hayateko waited for Tsumi at the front of the Academy. Tsumi blushed and froze up when she saw him, which was odd for her. "Umino-kun." Hayateko said with a cough. Tsumi nodded, her body on auto-pilot. "Let's... talk." Hayateko said, hesitating to find the right word.
Hayateko brought Tsumi to a bridge at the side of a lake. Tsumi pulled out a small amount of food and fed some ducks nearby. Some small children played in the shallows. Tsumi smiled. The children looked and waved. Tsumi waved back with a kind, motherly smile. Hayateko raised a hand in greeting.
"Why do you like me so much?" Hayateko asked. Tsumi looked at him, startled. "Hunh?!" she said with a twitch. "I was just wondering. Chillax." Hayateko said. "You... gave me.. faith..." Tsumi said, blushing. "...how?"
Tsumi thought back to when she was 6, just after her father died. She was crying in a room, touching her fathers cold hand. "to-chan!" she sobbed. she heard a voice a room over.
"I want to fight, Onii-chan." a strong yet sick boy's voice said. "You aren't even a genin." Naruto responded. "...I can still fight... I just want to die..." the boy said. Tsumi 'hmff'ed at that.
"Why die? You're so young." Naruto asked, a small amount of concern in his voice.
"I want to be a hero... Like your father, my father... your Sensei." the boy said. Tsumi looked at her father. He was cold, and his once tan skin was pale like death. Tsumi looked away for fear of crying.
"They were... ARE... great men... Who died for something they loved, even when it meant losing everything. They didn't think of that, though." the boy's voice became stronger as he continued. "They thought of everything the Village would lose if they failed, and it motivated them... until the very end!"
Tsumi was taken back by these words. "Motivated..." she whispered.
Naruro chuckled. "You're a funny kid, Gekko Hayateko."
"...Hayateko..." Tsumi whispered ever so softly.
Tsumi finished her explanation, then looked at Hayateko. He was shocked. "You... taught me something... Shinobi are not tools of destruction..." Tsumi said. "Hm?" Hayateko muttered with a cough.
"They are tools of protection! They find a cause, a goal, a Village, SOMETHING, and they stick to it and defend it! Rogue Ninja, those who fight for fighting and kill for nothing are dogs... Monsters..." Tsumi said with disgust and sadness. Hayateko stared at the intense girl next to him. "I want to die, live, and be a Ninja through the protection you taught me about that day! Yondaime-sama, your father, mine... they were, no matter their strength, The Ultimate Form of Shinobi!" Tsumi said.
Hayateko smiled. "They still are." he said. Tsumi blushed, then scratched the back of her head. "I'm sorry... for blathering..." she whispered, looking to the side. She bit her lip, and ended up cutting it. Some blood came, and Hayateko brought his fingers uner her chin. "...Haya... kun?" Tsumi whispered. Hayateko extended his tongue and licked the blood from her lip.
He then turned and walked off, making Tsumi the happiest she would ever be in her life, for that was the only moment of shared tenderness the two expierienced.
