Angelus: A walk of Fate
I lunged for the slayer, sending us both crashing through the weak steel door. He hit the ground first, and sent me rolling over him.
My body burst into indescribable pain. I screamed, and looked toward the sky. I was standing in direct, and strong, sunlight. I scurried into the nearest shadow, my flesh smoldering. I was unharmed, but my entire body felt like it had been in a kiln. The slayer, who was also a vampire, stood in a shadow some ten paces away. He laughed at me, then leapt away, bounding into the strange looking city around me.
My lips curled back in a snarl, but not a sound escaped my lips. I was rising to my feet when Vince and Lonely Vampiress looked out of the door.
“What in hell’s name are you doing out here?” Lonely asked.
“Not sure, to be honest.” I said, walking along the shadow of the building to join them. “Do you know where he may have gone?”
“We have yet to find the location of his lair.” Vince informed me.
“Any clues? Theories?” I looked back toward the city. “And what kind of city is this? The buildings are so tall…and made of steel and stone. For some reason them make sense to me, but at the same time I have no idea what they are.”
“Yes, right,” Lonely said. “Please, come inside and we shall explain all.”
I followed them. They lead me to another room, one I had passed as I had chased the slayer out of the sewers. Vince opened to door, and allowed the woman to enter first, then myself.
I found it to be an amazingly beautiful room, considering it’s location in the city’s bowels. It was as well furnished as the finest house I had ever seen, with colors of dark brown/red, blood red, black, and a red/purple. Their chairs and couches were made of leather, and there were several oak tables. There were about ten candles around the room.
“Please, sit.” Lonely Vampiress said. I sat in a chair, and my two hosts sat on a couch opposite me.
“Well, go ahead and question away.” Vince commanded, putting an arm around Lv.
“I know why you brought me here. You wanted a warrior with experience with this slayer. But as you know, I died in my first fight with him.” I paused to think. “I appreciate all that you’ve done for me, and bringing me back and giving me another chance to get my revenge. But the questions I have are these. To function in this world, I need to know things. But - strangely, I seem to understand things I’ve never seen before. For example: I know exactly what your weapons are. I know what pistols are. I know when they were invented. I know who the first president of the United States was. I know who the current one is. I know about dance clubs. I know the current music. How in the hell could I know all this?”
“An excellent question.” Lv smiled. “You know all of those things because of the blood I brought you back with. When a vampire takes in the blood of another, they gain all of their basic knowledge and experiences.”
I leaned back, as more realization hit me. “And…you gave me your blood…didn’t you?” I cringed. “Now I know why I know what it feels like to kiss Vince…that one’s going to give me nightmares.”
Vince smiled. “She’s knows that one well.” His smile widened. They kissed, and then kissed again, and after the third time I couldn’t help it.
I waved. “Very confused vampire here.” I said.
“Sorry.” they both said together. It was Lonely who spoke next.
“I suggest the best way for you to get a firm grip on reality is to go out once night falls.”
“Alright.” I nodded. “I could use some fresh air.”
Once darkness took the city, I left the sewers and walked through the streets. The city was like nothing I had ever seen in my previous life, and I found the back alleys and quieter portions more welcoming.
As I walked, I heard a woman scream. My eyes flared yellow, and I could swear I felt my heart beat. That voice was one I knew better than any other. Ana.
