   My Short Story
SLEEP WELL

The delicious taste of warm blood gushes into Lorelei’s mouth, awakening her taste buds, making her whole body quake with ecstasy. She feels the pulsing veins of her prey’s neck beating against the grasp of her delicate fingers, as she holds him possessively close devouring his life with every swallow. Lorelei’s heart begins to beat hard against her chest as the darkness within overpowers every inch of her slender but sturdy body. Eyes wild, she grabs her victim by the hair, gulping selfishly. A noise is heard and Lorelei is forced to delay her nightly gorge. Like a cat alert, the young vampire scans her surroundings in search for the source of the disturbance. She hears foot steps and swiftly jumps into the shadows, still clinging on to an almost inanimate body. Pupils contracting, Lorelei stares down into the tear streaked faced of the boy, his eyes searching hers for answers. A torch light can be seen approaching held by a handsome young figure. The blood sucker places a pale hand over her captive’s mouth, ceasing his whimpering cries that try to escape which would betray their hiding.

With the back of her right hand, Lorelei wipes away the blood from her full lips. She brings her face close, her long dark curly hair flowing loose over her shoulders. She kisses the boy’s cheek and whispers softly into his ear,
“Sleep well…” In one swift twist, Lorelei snaps his neck, the sound, like a splitting branch, hangs in the cool night air. The vampire’s grip releases the lifeless boy’s hair as he falls to the ground with a thud. The sound of the limp body hitting the hard surface of the dirt makes the young man stop dead in his tracks. In a rather unsure voice he calls out,
“Who’s there that lurks in the shadows?” Lorelei quietly jumps with ease on to a water-filled barrel before making her way up to the stable roof. “Come on now, show yourself!” says the brave green eyed boy, in a more reassuring way. The vampire sees, from her spot on the roof the boy crouching down picking up the dead body, before leaping off the stable on the opposite side. Something very peculiar about the young man makes Lorelei think that perchance she should find some reason to speak with him, and maybe even seduce him. Feasting on his blood will perhaps make up for the interruption he caused on her earlier hunt. Lorelei straightens out her flowing black dress and retracts her fangs, giving her an almost human demeanor, except her hunger for the blood of young men instead of love. Carefully, without a sound, she makes her way around the stable, back to where she had first been. She stands watching the way the young man’s intense emerald eyes observe the two small punctures in the dead boy’s twisted neck.
“Didn’t your mother ever teach you not to play with the dead?” asks Lorelei in a very innocent and playful tone. The boy stares at her, half because she has frightened him and the other half because her beauty has left him without words. “I can see by the look in your eyes that I have startled you. My apologies…”
A pause, “Kieris” answers the handsome guy as he tries to flatten his rebellious hair with his hands. Lorelei knows that her presence and beauty makes men uneasy, and she enjoys it very much so. She also knows that this boy is a very reserved and cautious individual just by looking in his eyes. Yet, she doesn’t enjoy looking into them. Something about his blazing green eyes makes her uncomfortable, almost as if he knows everything about her. The young woman tries not to think about it and puts that thought aside.
“Well, I’m glad to see you can talk, for a while I thought I was wasting my breath on a mute.” At this Kieris laughs and stands from his position on the ground.
“I found him here around ten minutes ago. Poor Draco Miller, I don’t reckon you know what type of beast would do this to a young lad?” Lorelei stares blankly at Kieris, doing her best at showing little emotion. Could he possibly be suspecting her, did he know her secret? Again he stares intensely at her with his eyes. She is drawn to them but also fears them, for she feels them tear into her soul leaving her naked and exposed. Ignoring the question altogether, Lorelei suggests, “Perhaps we should bring this Draco Miller to his parents where they can arrange a proper burial.”
“That isn’t a bad idea. Will you hold this torch while I bring the boy’s body?” The vampire snatches the light source from Kieris’ outstretched arm, and watches him lift the lifeless body from the ground.

They make their way fairly easy throughout the village, while trying their best at avoiding the village folk. Lorelei’s hunger creeps its way back into her belly as she stares longingly at Kieris’ neck seeing the vein pulse steadily. After the boy is brought home to his grieving parents, the hungry blood seeker invites Kieris back to her hut that is just a few minutes away from where they are standing. He is reluctant at first but soon gives in since he needs to wash up. Lorelei enters her small home and lights a few candles that are perched upon shelves, giving her cozy hut a dungeon-like effect. The young man follows the pale figure inside, taking off his sand colored blouse stained with blood. Lorelei makes her way around Kieris tracing her fingers along his back before slipping her arms under his from behind, caressing his bare chest. She feels his muscles tense as his whole body stiffens. Kieris turns himself around to face the lovely creature before him. Cupping his well defined jaw with her slender hands, Lorelei places a tender kiss upon Kieris’ heart shaped lips. Unsure of what to do, the young man pulls back giving the vampire a fright, yet he find himself enthralled by Lorelei’s beauty and begins to return her kisses and embraces. Lorelei’s heart pounds hard against her ribs as she and Kieris kiss passionately, before they both stumble upon the velvet blankets of her bed. The vampire slides her mouth along the boy’s neck as she unleashes her fangs, ready to delicately sink them into his flesh. That’s when she feels it, a sharp pain piercing through her heart, as she finds it hard to breathe and blood begins to trickle down the front of her black dress. Kieris kisses her on the cheek and brings his warm lips to her ear and whispers softly “Sleep well...”
