The small bird stared hopefully up at its master. She chirped softly, begging for a treat, a loving scratch on the back of the head, or even so much as a kind word or approving look into her eyes. Her master passed by without a second glance. She chirped again, slightly louder, and ruffled her feathers; making one single pin feather stick straight up into the air. She always received cute remarks from that one, and yet her owner didn't turn to face her. Suddenly she felt very small, and very vunerable. She huddled up against the cold bars of the cage as the room grew dark whilst the curtains were drawn. The once bright and open room seemed to darken, not only in appearance, but in aura. Frightened, the little bird shrunk down further back in the cage. Promptly, her master left. The little bird, confused, closed her eyes and went to sleep.

The room brightened.

An inner warmth flooded from an unknown source into the room, the deep beauty of it filling every crevasse of the once-chilling darkness.
