Relatives: Babysitting
It all started one day during the beginning of summer break when my dad's brother's wife who I refer to as my aunt asked me to babysit her grandchildren, which are my cousin's babies. She works in the summer, random days. I figured it'll be rude to say no, plus I don't mind, so I agreed to do it for a few days. FEW DAYS. She also offered me some money for it. I was enticed by the money, but I didn't want to make it my job-- 2 babies is a heck of a lot of work! My plan was to take care of them for at most 3 days and not accept the money so I won't be obligated to be on-call.
I don't mind taking care of the 2 year old, she is such an intelligent little butthole, but the 7 month old is difficult. The child would not stop crying. She's a crybaby, a big one. But I deal with it, and they are both adorable when they've had enough sleep and food.
Before I left my aunt tried to pay me, but I returned the money by leaving it on her kitchen counter. She called me again, and I returned to babysit, and she really forced me to take the money, and indicated that it was belittling to her if I didn't. So I babysat them for about 4 days, until I told her that I did not want to babysit anymore. It irritated me that she kept nagging me to bring along my little sister to play with them because I didn't like waking my sister early in the morning and make her babysit with me. My parents were also agitated because my auntie is afraid of telling her daughter-in-law to place the children in daycare instead of making us babysit for her. (There are also other deeper issues between my parents and my uncle and aunt that I won't get in to.) I don't blame my cousins for wanting their children to be under the care of relatives, but they leave it up to their mother who's afraid of telling them no.
I felt like I've helped them out enough, then I really tried to avoid her phonecalls, gave her excuses, and I even told her I do not want to babysit the children, but she wouldn't take no for an answer, and I couldn't put down my foot. But, I ended up coming over twice a week to babysit. I don't know if my parents said something to her, but she didn't call me for 2 or 3 weeks, and she suddenly called me again yesterday.
I told her I did not want to babysit, and once again she told me "one more time," and I'm like dammit, I felt sorry for the babies, and I said OK. I got really annoyed when she asked me to sleep over because she was going to leave early in the morning! Some people just keep pushing it. I refused to sleep over, but said that I will come over at 7.
So here I am, babysitting. The two are sleeping in separate rooms. Little buttholes.
She's so cute when she's not crying 80% of the time. =P
Relatives, some of them suck so much.
