She sat motionless on a rock, the crisp waves widely lapping the base, causing a bit of the spray to turn to foam as it pelted her gently. The gulls were calling overhead, barely audible through the sound of the waves. She looked up at them. Flying with the flock was a silvery black raven, soaring silently. For some reason, it didn't seem odd. She watched as they vanished from sight down the shoreline. Right as they were shrinking almost completely from view, the raven took a wide sweeping curve, and flew back toward her gracefully, the sharp wind not at all affecting his narrow and perfect glide. He grew closer, and she realized the astonishing speed that he must be flying. She soon realized that this wasn't the typical raven. He was massive, and the closer he came, the farther it seemed his wing span spread. Before long, he was sweeping down upon the rock on which she was sitting. He landed with an air of such grace that she almost felt compelled to bow to him. He stood larger than any bird that she had ever laid eyes upon, and he spread his wings once more and bent his head low in such a magnificent bow of authority that she too bowed her head from her already kneeling figure.
She felt a soft feather lift her chin, the silvery essence of it leaving a soothing numbness upon her. Without a word said, she stood before him. She looked at him, and her big brown eyes locked with his large, piercing black eyes. She felt, again, the numbing sensation as he looked deep into her eyes, seeming to penetrate clear through to her innermost core. All was silent, the waves at her feet suddenly felt so far away. Somehow she understood, and she climbed upon his wide back. The tingle fell through her every particle, and she fell into a lucid slumber as the muscular wings beat strongly as they soared across the water.
