Avatar Wins Genesis Award

Avatar: The Last Airbender continues to rack up prestigious awards. Last month Avatar won two Annie Awards, and this month the show has won a Genesis Award from The Humane Society of the United States.

The HSUS has given the awards each year since 1986 in order to "honor works from the big screen, the small screen and from print media – news and entertainment that convey the message of respect and compassion for animals."

Avatar won the award in the category "Outstanding Children's Programming" for episode 216, "Appa's Lost Days", which the HSUS Genesis Award press release describes as "...a mythical tale about animals held captive for human entertainment that resonates with the way animals are used in circuses today."

Congratulations to Nickelodeon and the staff on another great achievement!
