~ Part 22 ~
‘The power of oblivion is the strength of many memories…’

Exiting the plane Seto had out a little hand held computer. With Mokuba in tow he led the way to where she should be. An uneasy feeling crept into his heart. A feeling of foreboding, a feeling of danger.

Naru was pacing the room. The sorceress told her to help keep this girl safe. But how was she to do that? If her evil side came out what was she to do? Fight it? Shaking her head she turned toward Calla. A look of sorrow brushed her face before she put it away. Calla was sitting there with a sad disposition. She had said sorry enough times to please everyone on earth (ok minds out of the gutter >.<) She didn’t mean to do anything cruel. She just lost control. But what of next time? She could kill anyone and everyone.

Sighing inwardly at this new burden Naru said, “So tell me again what you know of your mother.”
Taking a deep breath Calla said, “All I know is that she saved the universe at one time or another. I don’t know how she got in the underworld but it sounds familiar, though I can not place it.”
“But there has been nothing about a universe needing saved within the past many millennia. Nothing in the written word about it, none at all. So she would have had to do that saving before human kind. Than why would she come here?”
“I don’t know. I just remember her face and what she did.”

This was all so confusing. Answers needed to be found but where? Is the Ishtar family didn’t know of this, than no one would.

“Come on we need to jog your memory” Naru said pulling her out the door.

Naru pulled her to the market. Figuring since this is where her power came forth maybe it can help again. Pulling her through all the places they had gone before. Person after person they went everywhere. Even places they hadn’t gone before in the hopes something would help. Finally coming to a stop they sat down to rest. A man in robes walked up to them. He had a gold shaped anhk hanging from his neck.

“I am in great need to talk to the sorceress.” He inclined his head to Calla, “Please follow me.”

Looking questioningly at each other we stood and started to follow him.

“Only the sorceress do I need.” He said stopping
“If she can’t come than I’m not either.”

He didn’t say anything but continued on. He led them back through the many streets. They entered a dark building. He went down a staircase into a dimly lit chamber. After we entered the room the doors were shut behind us. There was no other way out, they were trapped. Calla stood with an unemotional face on so I tried to put one on as well.

“Sorceress your crimes against my people runs long. You shall be tested of your worth now with the Millenium scale.” The man set another item on the table.

Calla sat in the chair by the table with her arms crossed. The man took a feather from his hat thing (I forget what they’re called)

“We now begin the game. The Shadow Game” He places a feather on one side of the scale, “On this side of the scales I place the feather of Ma’at…” The scale balances, “As you can see, the scales are now balanced. I will now ask you several questions. If you do not tell the truth, the other side will grow heavy… with the weight of your treason. If that side of the scale touches the ground than a penalty game of death awaits you.” The man finishes and stands a moment waiting for her to say something.

Her face did not show any emotion as he spoke of the scale. She didn’t even blink when he said death awaited her at the end. Her mouth remained closed even though she was expected to talk. So he continued

“Than the first question, There are two people about to drown. One is your friend and the other your enemy. The one you dislike is closer and easier to reach than your friend is. You can only save one of them. Which would you save.” The question hung in the air for no less than a moment.
Calla replied, “I would save both.”

The scale didn’t move and her eyes stayed fixed on the man and his on her. Neither of them looked uncomfortable but the tension in the room was building.

“Next question…”

Many more questions followed. Questions of death and life. Questions of the pharaoh and his heritage. Neither of them ever stopped after he fired off a question she answered it right away, almost like she knew what he was going to say. In the end the man looked frustrated but finally he ended the game saying she won.

Standing she spoke to him again, “Since I have passed your game I wish to know of something.” He nodded, “Why do you call me sorceress? I am not her but her child. You must be mistaken”
He spoke without any kindness in his voice “You are the child of one so that makes you one. Your assistance is needed when the pharaoh arrives. So do not go far.”
“What for?”
“You are to help him enter the underworld. As is your duty to him. So good day sorceress.” He waved them out the door.

Once outside again I stared openly at Calla. She just passed the trial of death and she looks so unhappy about it. Exasperated with her my mind turned to other things. He called her a sorceress. Well her blood line would make her one but she can’t even control the power and what was this about her leading the pharaoh into the underworld?

“Naru we have company.”

She shushed me and ducked down a side street. She quickly pulled me into hiding as a man passed by. His shadow stopped in the alley. Taking the side street the man passed right by us. Calla stuck out her foot and tripped him. Tumbling to the ground she wrestled him into a laying position. He grunted with the effort of trying to get her off but couldn’t. As I stood up a small boy flew down the alley and tackled me.

With a heave the man lifted Calla off him and held her, wiggling, at arms length, “Blast it woman must you always make such a fuss?”
“Kaiba put me down right now!!!” He dropped her, “ouch! You could have been easier you know.”

I pried the little boy far enough away to see that it was Mokuba and he was hugging me. Sighing I looked over at Kaiba. Him and Calla were locked in a wordless fight. Each glaring at the other. Rolling my eyes I finally stepped between them.

“We don’t have time for this. Kaiba what are you doing here?” I asked
“I came to find Danielle but instead I found this little tramp.” Kaiba glared at Calla
“Well I’m sorry for coming to the other side of the earth to get away from you and then you follow me” She tossed her hair over her shoulder.
Sighing again I said, “Look Kaiba you wait here with Calla and I’ll go find Danielle. Mokuba you can come with me.” I turned on my heel and left.

I returned to find Danielle in a panic that I was missing and the relief showed when I appeared.

“Where were you? And where’s Calla?” She asked
“Look Kaiba came looking for you,” A smile spread across her face, “So I asked Calla to wait with her while I came and got you,” The smile evaporated
“So what are we waiting for? Lets go!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaiba looked at me ad I at him. He never stopped glaring at me so I returned the favor. With a huff he looked the other way. Rolling my eyes I turned away too. That’s when I felt his hand in my hair. I could feel his body behind mine and more importantly his voice. Damn I hate him for having a sexy voice.
Spinning around he stopped whispering in my ear. Taking his hand away from me I stared openly at him. He was wearing a tight black shirt that showed off his body with cut off sleeves. The sand colored street brought out the blue in his eyes so deeply. I cursed him for that too.
“If you would please not do that again, Kaiba.” I turned and walked out of the alley.
He followed me out of the side street and into the sun. I leaned against a wall making sure I could see him and that he didn’t run off. ‘What am I doing? He’s not 5, he does not need watching.’ I thought to myself. I felt Danielle was coming before I even saw here. My skills were becoming more finely tuned everyday and as they did more memories flowed back into my mind.
Spinning around the last corner Danielle practically ran into Kaibas open arms. I averted my eyes when the embraced and kissed deeply. A sharp pang in my heart was all that brought nothing more.
Happy now Kaiba almost smiled at them. Then he saw me and I bet I ruined the moment for him. Wanting nothing more than to be alone I mumbled something about having to be somewhere and left them.
Wandering the streets I passed shops and other travelers. The weight of the day heavy on my soul. I was so tired. So tired of life and living. Mostly of heartache and wanting. Curse the spirits, if I had one thing of this world to change it would be to have feelings for another human being. no I thought again, that would only make it hurt that much worst
I was in a mood to make trouble. Unfortunately I was never able to live up to that. Looking up my eyes locked onto a fimiliar face.
“Hello sorceress, so we meet again.” The Pharaohs icy tone cut her to the bone.
and I'm done. Sorry it isn't that good. I was stressing out the whole end because I forgot how I wanted it done. anyway. Soon I'll have my party and everyone is invited!
