Why do I love you? pt. 11
"Burning anything takes fire, which you don't have much of at the moment..."
Cody sighed, accepting defeat. Then he undid his seatbelt and climbed into the back with Cati. His mom looked confused.
"What's going on here? Why did you slap her? Answer me, Cody!" His mom asked, upset that her son wouldn't tell her anything anymore.
"Answer the woman, Codyman, she is your mom and kinda knows where you live.... You don't need anyone else mad at you." Cati reasoned, settling back in her seat to watch the show. Now here was more of the kinda thing she always wanted to see happen to him. No had about it, he deserved this now.
"Fine." Cody sighed, feeling like he was being kicked while down. He hadn't come out to his parents, or anybody but Eric, before this happened, and now, five other girls knew, and he was being forced to tell his mom. In short, life couldn't get any more frustrating. "Well, basically...."
-----I'm enjoying making his life suck------
------Oh, and to Eric------
"...So that's basically it. My only real supporter here is an inane, yaoi-sessed genius with, in her words, no life, who I've known for pretty much ever, but am not actually friends with.... What do I do?" Eric asked, squeezing the hospital pillow closer to himself. Nurse Jim nodded.
"Well, you need to be a little more understanding of your boyfriend being wary of the public. You two are athletes, right? The team may not like it very much. Plus, there's the fact that you two are in high school and kids are cruel. But," Jim held up a hand to stop Eric from interrupting, "if you two already know that at least half the school is okay with it, he should at least try it, by starting small. Like holding hands or something. And ease into it."
Eric nodded. He decided he liked Nurse Jim, and if he or Cody ever landed here again (hopefully not by a car), it wouldn't be too bad. Nurse Jim didn't even seem to care that he was gay.
"Do you think Cody will ever speak to me again?" Eric asked. Nurse Jim thought a minute.
"Call him and see, you have the phone right beside you, just press 9 first. Now, I've got to make sure no one keeled over before I leave. My shift is over, but I'll be back tomorrow!" Nurse Jim said, leaving. He waved. "See you then!"
Eric smiled and waved back. Smiling, he picked up the phone and started to dial Cody's cell. Maybe things could work out after all?
-------back to the dimwitted duo------
"...and that's basically it." Cati said. She'd had to pick up when Cody had been too choked up to talk.
"Uh, wow. Too much at once, I need a minute." Cody's mom said. She felt like she'd been kept very out of the loop. After a minute she said, "So, what are you going to do now? Poor Eric probably thinks you don't love him at all."
"That's what I gathered from how he acted back there." Cati said. Cody sighed.
How could I treat him so poorly? And act so mean? He thought to himself.
Just then his phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and flipped it open.
"Hello?"
“Um, hi. Cody? A-are you mad at me?” Came the timid reply from the other end. Relief filled Cody as he realized it was Eric.
“No baby, of course not. Why would I be? I’m the one who’s been a jerk.”
“I did act a bit mean when you were here.” Cody smiled softly, feeling glad Eric was still, at least, willing to put up with him in a phone call.
“Oh, Eric, you were hurt and upset. It’s fine. Are you feeling any better, you know, physically?”
“Yes, Nurse Jim gave me plenty of meds before he left.” Cody was genuinely happy about that. At least, his love wasn’t suffering any more pain.
“That’s good. I hate seeing you in pain.”
“Um, do you think you could come back tomorrow? We need to talk, and it isn’t something I want to do over the phone…” When Cody heard that, he felt like he’d been stabbed. Eric was going to….going to….
“Yes.” Was all Cody could manage as a weak reply.
